Well, here we go:
Senator Peters served honorably, during armed conflict, in the U.S. Navy Reserve. "Peters's reserve duty included time in the Persian Gulf supporting Operation Southern Watch; he served overseas again during increased military activity following the September 11 attacks. Peters attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before leaving the Reserve in 2008; Peters earned the Seabee combat warfare specialist insignia, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. In 2018, he received a diploma from the College of Naval Command and Staff, part of the U.S. Naval War College."
2LT Hegseth earned promotion to USA Major before he resigned his commission. Thus, his final rank is equivalent to that earned by Senator Peters when he completed his Navy service.
I'm just an Olde Chief, but I'm inclined to expect JOs would respect each other, even though they may serve in separate services.
I remember when "draft dodger" was the worst epithet you could throw at an aspiring politician. No more. It seems the left understands sacrifice more than the right these days, which would have seemed ludicrous 30 years ago. Now we have a draft-dodger president and an armchair war gamer secretary who don't seem to give a damn about anything except avoiding responsibility for their decisions.
"We owe our warriors gratitude, respect, and every resource necessary to accomplish the missions."
We also owe them respect when they die at our behest. This administration's attempts to split hairs and diminish and dismiss the deaths of the four service members who perished last week is beyond the pale. It's sickening.
It is a cynical ploy by Hegseth and the administration to hide behind respect for the troops. They know full well that the individuals charged with executing operations did not spontaneously decide to go to war and are not responsible for Trump's choices. Hopefully voters can see that, too.

Support the troops demand that the dead are counted!
