Susan Collins is Lyndsey Graham in a dress. Lyndsey Graham recently did his best impression of Foster Brooks on Fox News.

Old news, but still pertinent. GOP senator Susan Collins defends claim Trump ‘learned his lesson’ after first impeachment. Trump DID LEARN his lesson. He learned that he could get away with anything, thanks to empty vessels like her and many other Republican senators.

Shelfie's avatar

Well said. The parallels between her and Lyndsey are almost embarrassing.

They are incredibly different. If Lyndsey Graham is defeated, it will be in a primary, and he will likely be replaced by a far more MAGA Senator than he is. If Sue Collins in defeated, she will be defeated in a general election by a far less conservative Democrat, and that seat will be gone for Republicans for at least a generation, if not forever. Just look at West Virginia. As such, she couldn't be more different from Lyndsey Graham.

Love the Dog Show story. Love Nick the Tibetan. Much better than the shit show in Congress.

Collins is beyond frustrating! I email/phone her daily and about once a month she writes back, "explaining" all the great things she's done for the state of Maine while simultaneously voting to advance another of Trump's horrible ideas and/or nominees. Remember Brett Kavanaugh?

Some Maine voters would love nothing more than to vote her out in November and we will try our damndest to make it happen. It's time for Susie to go.

Reldas's avatar

At least you get a response. I've never heard from Cornyn or Cruz.

Judith Berghuis's avatar

True. She just tonight sent me an email explaining her recent communication with Noem and it feels like she is suddenly doing the "right" things because she knows her days are numbered. But you're right. I do appreciate actually getting a response.

Is it even worth writing to them? They are all I've got and they tell you to write. I feel dispirited by these frozen in amber politicians. I hope cruz enjoyed his brief Cali vacation. Stick to bacon cooking. Cornyn - useless baggage fighting off a wonky eyed POS. Both are the dregs.

Reldas's avatar

I hear you 100% but every semester I call both of their offices, in all of my classes. I think it's important to show my college students that the first amendment still exists, and that they can use it too.

I take this as encouragement so I thank you. I will write. They want us to get tired and discouraged. I'd be letting them win.

Joe - You should rename it the Lobster+King Crab Rollback. Many of us New Englander figured out a long time ago that Collins & Murkowski have long had a secret deal to look like they are opposing the administration when they're not. They alternate, 1 gets to vote Opposed, the other votes In Favor, as long as neither's vote will actually tank the legislation, and they switch on whatever critical vote comes along next. Think Collins' votes on the Brett Kavanaugh limit-abortion stakes or killing Obamacare (which only John McCain's last-second change of heart saved); or Murkowski voting for The Big Beautiful bill she obviously hated. Or god knows how many committee-level Cabinet approvals. It's been a game with the two of them forever...and they always make sure the onerous vote goes thru.

Shelfie's avatar

I agree on their secret deal- very insightful take. It sure looks like it's a mutual support schtick. But it'll be fun to watch Murkowski tap dance all alone, if her partner in mendacity gets bounced back to Maine.

DanceThisMessAround's avatar

God I have more respect for Tommy Tuberville than her and Murkowski put together. And that is saying absolutely nothing about Tuberville.

Robin Luethe's avatar

'they always make sure the onerous vote goes thru' Indeed, no sense of history or honor - what do you call someone who has sold their mind.

Mary Ellen Segraves's avatar

We can only hope that the Maine voters see through Collins and vote her out!

Anne's avatar

Non-Mainers pay for Collins' preferential treatment for Mainers -- she's basically saying, 'F all you Americans whose senator isn't on the hit list!'

Her behaviour gets more inexcusable by the day.

Maine will not be exempted from the collapse of democracy....

Shelfie's avatar

Exactly lobster-roll her on wheels right out of the senate. She's a wavering, quavering self-serving crone who has again and again NOT made the righteous decisions. When she was given the opportunity. But, it's obvious she's being propped up by Trump et al. to win. I'd love to see the battle of the old ladies- what fun. But she probably has the edge over Mills, sadly.

Maine voter here. I’ve been wondering when media would pick up on what’s going on with Collins. I get her email newsletter and these carve outs are always mentioned. If Maine voters really look at how she’s been able to protect our state from some of the extremism and retaliation, getting rid of her in November is not the no-brainer some think it is. Though if she wins, she’ll likely be in her last term and the 47 administration may no longer give her the carve outs.

Janet Wilson's avatar

The thing that bothers me is that her carve outs come at the expense of others, of those not living in Maine. That is an unspeakably selfish way to operate. Not just for Collins, but her supporters, who should all know the Golden Rule. Or at least the poem by Martin Niemöller...

Lance Cherry's avatar

I mentioned above that Maine will not be spared from the collapse of democracy. Any warm fuzzy feeling her supporters might have is temporary...

Janet Wilson's avatar

Sorry Lance, I think we posted at the very same time! I hope that in these very frightening times, Maine voters understand that all Americans have to demand a return to decency and democracy.

"the tail of Seussian floofiness" is hilarious.

I have done the same with the Westminster Dog Show because of the perpetual pain of being a Jets fan - and a Mets fan, but that's a different story...

I think Mainers have had their fill of Susan "thoughts and prayers" Collins

Sheila Griffin's avatar

This makes my blood boil!! She voted for all his dangerous incompetent cabinet members. What a toady!!

Harley "Griff" Lofton's avatar

I guess we now know why Collins who is "always concerned but never enough to act" voted to let ICE continue to terrorize the rest of America. I wonder what Murkowski got for Alaska?

Karen Heck's avatar

People are on to Susan Collins in Maine after her vote for Kavanaugh, Vought, Kennedy, and Bondi and for casting the vote to move ahead with the Big Ugly Bill. Graham Platner will win both the primary in June and the general election in November. No one else has the kind of energy he's generated, getting his signatures to be on the ballot collected in 5 days, filling town halls, and raising more money in the last two quarters than Janet Mills, his Democratic challenger and Collins.

Judith Wynn's avatar

Yeah, tattoos are cool. Until they aren't. Platner got his "German" one whilst drunk. Will he do Trump a solid next time he's drunk? Stay tuned.

Karen Heck's avatar

Just wondering if you are from Maine because most Mainers could care less what someone did years ago despite Schumer doing his best to keep the issue alive because his chosen one is Janet. Mainers are responding to what Graham is saying and doing now. That's why one third of the population of Liberty showed up a few days ago for one of his town meetings in a town that voted for Trump in 2024. He was the only senate candidate who showed up at the rally in Lewiston and joined the ones in Bangor and Portland calling out Collins' vote.

Leros's avatar

Collins has no ideology other than remaining in power. Assuming Platner beats Mills in the Democratic primary (which seems likely given the age of Mills), I suspect Collins will narrowly beat Platner.

Victoria Brown's avatar

Joe, I will opt for dogs every day.

Maine voters have to know that if somehow, Susan Collins wins in 26, somebody will say something nice about Collins and Rinoism…. And then Maine goes back to being a #1 target again now that the ego of Donald is freshly bruised.

Reldas's avatar

The lobster rollback is fantastic.

The TX 18 has representation again after going over 330 days without it thanks to Hot Wheels. I was SO happy to vote for someone younger than me lol.

I thought the ICE pullout looked sketchy. Thing is Trump always expects payment.
