"That is, Democrats are supposed to participate in their strategy to get DeSantis nominated in 2024 — it’s their duty, even if it entails giving Trump a pass on criminal acts, and even though it will make Democrats less likely to win the 2024 election."

Precisely stated, and further, underlines a peskily persistent reality: the entire Republican Party has regressed at a truly astonishing rate from (mostly) functioning adults into a tree-fort full of eight-year-olds who want Mom to bring their dinner outside; they won't climb down that rickety ladder, come inside to wash their hands, and eat what's on their plate using appropriate utensils.

I voted Republican for a few cycles, but after being Gingrich-ed, realized if I ever wanted anything of any substance to be accomplished in this country, I was, for the foreseeable future, gonna be a Democratic voter.

They don't always act like grownups, but they, at least, can be counted on to show up, give democracy a go, and eat dinner with their mouths closed.

Team Normal’s 30 year quest of wealth inequality has got them into this pickle. The prepping pro-corporate justices to be ā€œpro-lifeā€ has done this. Dobbs was because the bill had become due. Had they wanted to, they could have over-turned Roe v Wade before. People forget it was a Republican appointed majority Supreme Court that fiated RvW into law in the first place.

Most paycheck-earning people don’t want what the Republicans were selling and they still don’t. Even evangelicals like me shouldn’t want it because the Bible rarely celebrates the wealthy and is loudly against ā€œunequal scalesā€ which is now represented by how our tax structure and other legislation is created. Even the Tax Foundation admitted that policies have contributed to our extreme wealth inequality (or they said so in one throw-away sentence while disputing the value of the Inflation Reduction Act). But you know, you have to crack a few eggs...

I wish more normal republicans would realize that their ā€˜fiscal conservatismā€ has got them this. I don’t see that even now, however. Few people buy what they’re selling so yes, they’re going to be stuck with the culture-war crazies if they continue to sell such unpalatable wares.
