I am not a big bible reader but doesn’t it say somewhere that giving up one’s life to save another is the greatest act of love. While being shot many times her only thought was to protect her daughter. Yeah, let’s make her the focus of our comments
Hey Bill, go ahead, be delusional, please! "Delusional" works, clearly, it's how we got to where we are but mainly fueled by the festering rot that the False Messiah pukes out at his whim. Who could actually believe that a POTUS is that vacant? Being forced to listen to a clown isn't easy but watch the other G7 members. It defies explanation and that is the ultimate weapon. Clutching to historical references is pedantic at best, yes, but seven minutes ago is all that really matters to a benumbed citizenry. Is it too early to say, "how did we get here?" Me thinks not.
Three cheers for Bill's comments in Monday's Morning Shots. They gave me a bit of hope.
Yes, the non-MAGA majority of the people can use our 250th anniversary next year to remind ourselves and recommit ourselves to the real meaning of America, regardless of what North Korean or Soviet style ceremonies and activities the ridiculous and repulsive Trump administration puts on.
Absolutely agree with this, Bill: "emphasize the celebration of our 250th birthday as a nation." I would only add "one" in front of "nation". Trumpism says the real Americans are white, Christian, only high-school educated, and live in rural areas. This is false. It's the Constitution that makes us Americans. Not race, creed or anything else.
On Saturday, we in the nation-wide prodemocracy coalition reclaimed our flag. It stands for "We the People" - all of us, not some of us, equally created - due process and the rule of law based on the Constitution. As the saying goes, we are a nation of laws, not men. That's what this year's 4th should be about.
"This weekend the people registered a different opinion." Five million strong, they sure as hell did. My fever dream is that his washout of a Worship Me parade will prove predictive. He will do so much, that is so awful, for so many people- including many in his zombified base- that he himself will do 90% of the work to bring about his own undoing. Between now and 11/26 millions of people of both parties will get a nauseating taste of how incompetent, unkind and devoid of substance his "policies" are, taking hold IRT. Things like torching Medicaid, which also axes critical parts of Medicare. I'm thinking Red voters will not appreciate.
So take heart. The healing momentum is taking form already. Dems can point to his failures, which they absolutely must, but there's no time to lose to build a highly appetizing and attractive contrast. Show how their tent is the right place to go. Round up their own base, but grow bigger with defectors, who thought he was actually going to help their lives. Use the tidal wave of shock, and feelings of betrayal that is coming. I gee-own-tee it's coming. The proposition needs to be: take your pick- pathetic loser level parade or 5 million strong and growing whose message is "Get TF out of our lives. And take your loser dregs of a party of hangers-on with you. We will not allow you to finish destroying our country. Get TF out! "
OK, I told you it was a fever dream. But didn't it sound like one you never want to wake up from?
Guys, if clever Americans familiar with our founding documents can't use 2026 as an opportunity to remind us all of the Enlightenment virtues those cats were thinking about back then, we're in deeper doo-doo than I think. I remember 1976, for example. The Declaration itself is loaded with a bill of particulars that contrasts well with Trump and his ignorance of that document. Acknowledge, but don't dwell on, the ways they missed the mark -- no point in re-litigating that history. Use all that as a kind of redemption to fix the flaws we obviously still have as part of a governing program.
Some people in MAGA-land think those Enlightenment virtues were the Original Sin of our nation's founding. They're inclined to use "Enlightenment" as a term of opprobrium because it means "secular liberalism," which they loathe.
It's a given that the MAGA-sphere would come up with all sorts of propaganda to blame "left-wing radicals" for the shooting of Minnesota legislators, but kudos to the Minnesota Congressional delegation (almost evenly split) for quickly issuing a joint statement condemning the attacks. Also kudos to Minnesota Public Radio for airing interviews on Saturday with multiple Republican leaders, who offered excellent and compassionate insight. No one on either side blamed the other. If anything it is a tragedy that underscores the need to end the rhetoric of confrontation and violence that has poisoned political discourse in this nation.
Great recap on the parade and No Kings. I saw it as -mostly- a good weekend for our country. WRT to the shooter I disagree- 9 times out of 10 the bad guy with a gun is from the right wing, and I don't think it does us a service to sweep that under the rug. And I've seen very few attempts at gun reform coming from the right, either.
It is a very good idea to assert our interests in the 250 celebration of the Declaration of Independence -- our nation's birthday. A couple of years prior to the bi-centennial the film version of 1776 appeared and began to stir some sentiments of patriotism lost on those of us who protested the war in Vietnam and were alienated from our neighbors, friends and relatives in the "silent majority." This flush of patriotism arose in spite of the fact that the released versions at that time did not include vital sections cut by Jack Warner out of deference to his personal friend, Richard Nixon. Those sections, and a discussion of it by screenwriter Peter Stone and Director Peter Hunt, were restored in the director's cut in 2002, making the film as it is available today faithful to the stage script as written 1964-1969. Not least in the cuts was a scene, the minuet of the cool-cool conservative men, after which Hancock questioned if their true loyalty was to the crown, or to the half-crown. Dickenson's cold reply that the people would do as asked by the their betters because they would "rather protect the possibility of being rich than face the reality of being poor" goes a long way to explain a certain populist fealty to Trump. On the whole, the script is vital in its expression of mid-twentieth century liberalism, and is particularly moving in agonizing over political compromise made on the issue of enslavement. Wave the US flag, or the Betsey Ross, for the next year and don't let patriotism be again defined or high-jacked by those with less regard for constitutional liberty.
To add to Bill’s optimistic tone, I just returned from hiking at Rocky Mountain NP where we met on the trail a group of 15 or more new/re hires heading up to do trail maintenance. I believe our response to their confirming that positions are being filled was, PTL hallelujah! TACO for the Park Service!
Andrew Egger is correct - that little thing on top of Trump’s head would fit an 18-inch American Girl doll. For a real crown see His Majesty
Charles III of the United Kingdom. A real crown encompasses the entire top of the head and *fits* like a hat. You can tell by Trump’s idiotic grin that he doesn’t known the difference.

This might be a start for America who was waiting to exhale to finally be able to do it.

This may be a job for Lincoln Project.

I was viewing a Facebook reel when I arrived upon the following quote, which I pass
along to anyone that cares to read it for the humor and truth it contains. It goes as follows:
"We can retire the national debt by installing a pay toilet on Trump's grave."
