"Finally, as a Democrat who came of age during the heyday of mid-20th-century liberalism, Mr. Biden is wedded to the idea of using a functional, competent and capable federal government to improve people’s lives—whether or not more recent history validates that faith."

And it is working. Look at the infrastructure law, it is working, wages are up, unemployment is down and economic growth is phenomenal. The government can provide the construct within which the economy can function for the good of all Americans. They can and should protect us through the EPA, the FDA providing nationwide inspections and enforcement of food safety and environmental safety in example. It was one of the New Deals constructs most hated by republicans (the REA) that brought electricity to rural areas across the country. Republicans made up their minds in 2010 that they would do everything they could to keep the country in the hands of the super rich even though they knew there would be an eventual economic reckoning. The pandemic effectively delayed this and Biden's return to government liberalism has at least for now kept it at bey. But we need not just President Biden but a democratic congress to truly get back on track.
