Fetterman appears to be more interested in keeping his title than anything. Whoever he was, he doesn’t appear to be that guy anymore. He’s going to be a Republican before Trump leaves office.

I'm thinking he reads his constiuents and feels they are more Trumpy than he thought and he's hoping if he is going to win another election he will only be reelected if he shows proper homage to Trump. The mistake people make is that because he dresses like a slob, he must be a genuine person and not a boot licker. I think this is probably only his facade
Being polite to potential political appointees form the opposition party is not paying homage. I will be shocked if Fetterman votes for even one unqualified candidate. Yes, his constituents include a lot of “Truskists”, many of whom are probably already feeling at least a twinge of buyer’s remorse. His even-handed approach to at least appearing to consider Trump/Musk appointments is political savvy.
I'm starting to regret my vote and contributions for Fetterman but then he was running against Dr. Oz so.....Not sure I will vote for him next time around, especially if he cozies up and continues to normalize the Mump Regime.
Fetterman may, in fact, be a different person because he had a major stroke. My grandfather was a totally different person after his stroke. Before the stroke, he was a mean, abusive, self-centered SOB. After the stroke, he was a mischievous, happy-go-lucky guy without a mean bone in his body.
Oh, no. That’s terrible. It’s a wonder the paralysis and slurred speech didn’t exacerbate his meanness, abusiveness and self-centeredness. Physical crises don’t always bring out the nobility in people.
It is more of a political calculation. He understands that by being “open” to Musk/Trump appointees he’ll get much more real information about them and from them. No Trump appointee will ever be totally satisfactory to Democrats and he knows that too. Fetterman will NEVER vote for a terrible appointee, but he is a realist and understands that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.
Patel is a terrible appointee, not only because of the threats to Trump's enemies, but he is fully unqualified for the job. I certainly hope Fetterman doesn't give him his vote.
I don't have time to search for it, but did Fetterman address Patel's qualifications in the interview?
Fetterman is not going to vote for any of them if they’re unqualified. At least being cordial is political savvy. Remember, Congress has to somehow work with Musk/Trump’s appointees, at least until Musk/ Trump tires of them which of course they will if past is prologue….
Do you truly think that Fetterman will will be getting "real" information from Patel and the other nominees? About as "real" as the reassurances that Susan Collins got from Bret Kavanaugh. Trump is feeling very aggrieved about the prosecutions that were brought against him. Patel may not go after his entire list, but some examples will definitely be made. Not sure what Fetterman's calculus may be, but he does seem to understand the mood of the swing voters in Pennsylvania. He does not, however, seem to notice the condescension with which many Republicans view him after his health episodes. Patel was not doubt trying to snooker him.
I hope you are right Cathlynn, unfortunately I am not getting warm and fuzzy vibes from him. I smell someone who got addicted to power and access and will say what they need to say to keep it without causing his constituents to show up with pitch forks.

Yep. He cares more about keeping his job. He’s showing himself to be quite willing to go along to get along.

Heh. Mump regime is spot on. And a nice play with RFK too. I’m gonna use this!
Can't take the credit - Tim Snyder coined the phrase and I think it is spot on.

Lucky thing for your grandfather. Strokes don’t normally seem so beneficial.
Half his body was paralyzed and his speech was slurred after the stroke. So, it wasn't all beneficial.

Interesting. Maybe that's possible.
It is very possible and unfortunate if true.

Good comparison: "About as "real" as the reassurances that Susan Collins got from Bret Kavanaugh."

Sadly, as a resident of PA, I think you're right.
