Why are Republican house members getting a paid vacation while the rest of government employees getting no checks. Do they have any work to do? We have been waiting more than 12 years for a healthcare plan. I assume they could be working on a budget, which should have been passed. I guess we now pay them to do nothing now.

Well, Trump did not get the peace prize and will be mad to hear that it is someone from Venezuela, someone fighting for democracy.

The first point to which Israel falls back still allows them to occupy more than half of Gaza. And there is nothing to stop Israel from renewing their attack once the hostages are exchanged. Netanyahu isn't much different from Trump. Guarantees mean little to him.

Winning issues and unifying themes only matter if elections - the ultimate guardrails - are free and fair. It's very clear that insuring a "successful" outcome in next year's contests is a key part of the Trump takeover plan.

For a disturbingly high number of commenters here, it would appear their loathing for Israel and/or Netanyahu outweighs their supposed support for ceasefires and an Israeli pullout.

It would wise (and evidence of actually have a good faith argument) to actually give this plan more than a day or two before pronouncing it dead just because its inconvenient for a predetermined, simplistic worldview.

Trump may have the "only Nixon could go to China" effect here in terms of getting buy-in from Netanyahu. I think that says more [bad things] about Netanyahu than anything else, but I'd rather have the war end than "correct" people end it. The mood in Israel, from what I understand, is actually for Trump to really fuck over Bibi if he (Bibi) is the wrench in this deal. Which I hope he does. That's the other side of the coin--it may take losing Trump (of all people) for Netanyahu to realize he's way out in front of his skis.

If one's answer to everything is to blame Israel first & foremost, then--of course--this possible deal means nothing to you. But the agreement even half-succeeds, it will be a telling moment to see who can acknowledge (even grudgingly) that we have a net positive and who is blinded by an anti-Israel (or perhaps, in some cases, merely anti-Netanyahu) rage.

This is also the best opportunity Israelis have had in a long time to dislodge the batshit crazy religious parties from government. Or, rather, they will remove themselves.

This deal means nothing to me (or to Israel) because I'm aware of their multiple recent violations of ceasefire agreements and the fact that they have participated in genocide.

If you have a good faith argument for how or why violating a ceasefire or a genocide is necessary, then you can present it at your tribunal.

Why don't you just go fuck yourself?

Why is Trump sending DM's? Because he is another human who lives his life online (and on TV). He is like Musk, Mike Lee, etc. Their brains have atrophied to the point where it's just about rage-tweeting, trolling, and online battles.

Don't worry, I am self-aware enough to note that I am online right now, engaging with people. If I ever become President, I promise to forsake online discussions (except for The Bulwark).

The real question for me is: Can an American president who is waging war every day on Americans really win the Nobel Peace Prize? How much hypocrisy will the committee turn a blind eye to?

If Trump is given a Nobel to get him to shut up and go away then the Nobel Prizes are history, because they are as meaningless as Trump's word.

I'd like to think that anyone who harasses them, and endlessly promotes themselves, is automatically disqualified, but i don't know how they think about this. I don't think DJT's lust for Greenland has endeared him to Scandinavians but who knows?

I hope so, I'm sincerely hoping that if somehow there is not a civil war, somehow we have actual fair elections or the turnout is overwhelming, and somehow if the elections are not overthrown, that the next AG and head of the FBI is a rabid attack dog of a progressive who goes after every fascist in this country in a way that would make Patton, Sherman, and Eisenhower blush.

Poetry nerd comment alert: In "Mending Wall," Frost is critical of the neighbor and his mindless adherence to his repeated saying. The speaker lays out several reasons that the wall they rebuild together each year isn't needed, but the neighbor is stuck in the tradition he was taught and doesn't apply critical thinking.

"Good fences make good neighbors" is often misused this way. "Something there is that doesn't love a wall" is the real thinking behind Frost's poem.

This doesn't make the statement wrong, but Frost was disagreeing with it, not promoting it.

About the Peace Plan: What will Bibi do if it really happens and he can't hide behind Gaza anymore? Will he start a wider Middle East war?

About the DM to the AG: Do you think this regime could be vulnerable to phishing attacks?

Expand full comment
Wandyrer's avatar

It has already demonstrated its weakness to phishing and its propensity towards making stupid mistakes, and multiple groups and nationalities of hackers have in multiple instances capitalized on it. Those leaks you keep hearing about and all the documents that end up in public spaces I can assure you are not all government employees.

But it is amusing that one of the first things Trump did was fire the entire team responsible for trying to protect the US Government from cyber intrusion, because it was getting in his buddy Putin's way.

“The Trump administration deserves credit for helping to see this through, ….”

These words in the introduction made me gag, as did the word “deal” used over & over. We do not have to use that filthy word right out of his mouth when agreement would have been a better choice. You can disagree with me when the hostages return healthy & well fed instead of sickly, dying, skeletons, & he & his crooked sin-in-law have not broken ground on their wonderful, beachfront hotel & golf course.

It’s getting extremely obvious that this President has Dementia. He cannot remember things he did in his first term. The only “information” he seems to hang onto, is whether he feels a grievance against someone or not (and, the details are usually fuzzy.)

( I’ve been through 8 yrs of Dementia, with my now-93 y.o. Mom, who can now barely speak; every time some new weird speech or behaviour shows up in Trump, I recognize it! )
