Charlie! My dude!!! I loved the Tyler Merritt interview! I know I give The Bulwark flack sometimes for not having a full-time POC contributor, but this interview plus the one you did with lawyer T. Greg Doucette shows us how spot on you are when it comes to issue of racism in our society and our police force. These interviews are a big reason why I can respect your opinion on a wide range of issues, some of which we disagree. You have principles and a good heart, that goes a long way with us remaining reasonable people in the world. Also, Merritt loves Las Vegas, the city I live in and the best city ever… even tho QANON nut jobs are congregating here this weekend 🤢.

Also, if anyone needs to LOL, they should read the comments on that Josh Mandel tweet.

I almost wondered if he did it because of your comment. He does read 'em. He probably has these scheduled well in advance but it was quite the coincidence. 😏

"best city ever..."

Yes, insanity is contagious. Otherwise A+ on the rest of the comment.

Thank you, Lewis! I appreciate the kind words! Vegas locals are the best people ever tho! Las Vegas gets a bad rap, but we’re a strong, middle class city. I love it here: we have low taxes, good social services (Nevada Medicaid saved my life), and we don’t regulate things to death. Unfortunately because our main industry is entertainment, we get hardest hit during economic downturns. And the 115 degree summer heat might make us a little wacky. But a friendlier city, I have yet to meet. You just have to get off the strip. Hope that didn’t come off as crazy defensive lol because as a nerd, I loved getting an A+!

Not used to getting a Danke Schoen after accusing someone of insanity. Not sure you are Misanthropic Party material. Is Wayne still alive and crooning?

Las Vegas was built on the insight that there is money to be made fleecing all creatures mesmerized by twirling tassels and rotating lemons. In other words, debased sexuality and debased economics. Since you shouted it, are you suggesting that you playing emo music redeems all this history? (I conceived of this as a needling question originally, but it actually is a serious question.}

To expand on my parenthetical remark: It's hard not to have a low opinion of humanity when you realize that tens of millions got what they wanted in T****. I brought up Celine's novel Journey to the End of the Night in a reply to an earlier reply to a comment of yours. A critic once described this book as the Misanthrope's Bible. Even tho I can only read it in translation, I find it an absolutely astonishing work. Can art redeem all the crawling ugliness in the world? Is there a form of redemption in Celine's work? Can politics redeem us? The misanthrope doubts this. Of course the Christian story is all about redemption, with sacrifice in the name of love the central act. And what is JVL up to? Is he teaching us not to put too much hope in politics? If you can answer all these questions, you will definitely redeem the violent, barbaric, tasteless parts of the history of Las Vegas.
