Their whole funding apparatus needs an overhaul. Some candidates catch fire every election cycle and raise a ton of money, like Fetterman. They don't need DNC money. But other less flashy candidates like Ryan in OH and Beasley in NC would have benefitted from the help. In the last couple of weeks before the election, all you saw on cable and social media were negative ads from Ted Budd lying about Beasley. Her campaign should have been given some DNC money to counter the Budd attack ads.
I voted straight Democrat for the first time in my life with one exception here in Cumberland County (the exception was John Szoka). I happily voted for Ms Beasley. I will say one nice thing about Mr Budd--I like a man with nice hairy forearms...beyond that, he was never going to get my vote after the DJT endorsement.
I had the misfortune of being one of his constituents for a few years until redistricting. He had the worst constituent service I've ever experienced. His staffers were obnoxious, and his office was unresponsive outside the issues he cared about. If you contacted his office, the only thing you got out of it was added to his fundraising mailing list. He's also a coward who would only hold 'telephone' town hall meetings. He operated in a bubble, and I expect he'll continue doing so in the senate.
I totally get it, but, I am a VSO in Cumberland County and I cannot deny the work he did for veterans in my county. For that, he got my vote. Otherwise, he would probably have not gotten it.
Florida is gonna need a decade plus campaign and money behind it. Door to door, bread and butter issues. And most importantly, blasting the rampant corruption of the ruling GOP
I feel the same way about Tim Ryan's campaign; he might have been able to beat Vance with more support. Michael Steele had some strong words on the apportioning of funds last night during MSNBC's election coverage, essentially reaching the same conclusion you have about Florida.
So do I! I got so many text messages from the DNC asking for money and I have donated in the past, but I stopped because they make such ridiculous decisions!
How could you NOT support Ryan and Beasley??? It's the height of political malpractice!
They were so bad about supporting really good candidates who had a fighting chance that I didn't send the DNC anything and instead donated to the individual candidates' campaigns. Malpractice, indeed!
I only supported my local candidate. It was a very close and contentious race. I am pained to learn this am his opponent declared victory. There are still about 8K votes to count. My husband said our district is the Wisconsin Suburbs equivalnt in NY. He may be right. He thinks today's voters do not deserve good democratic governance. They don't value their union benefits as they vote an R every cycle without considering the ramifications. TBH it could still be a -- "It is not me, so fuck you" situation when they all return to decide to debate, debate and have a variety of inservice.
When voters vote against their own interests, as the majority of the republican base have been doing for years, it has to be about something other than policy, you know? Your husband sounds a lot like mine. Mine says these people would stick a fork in their own eye if they thought it would hurt the Democrats or 'the libs.'
Perhaps I'm naive, but I always thought the role of the DNC chair was to get out there and make the case for Democrats - from legislative successes to candidates for office. Perez and Harrison have been lousy at both.
I don't know. When it's all said and done, Vance is gonna win by 6 or more points. I'm not sure that Ryan could have overcome that deficit even with more spending. NC was a real chance that was missed, but I feel like OH is wishcasting.
We could have had that senate seat here. We really could have. Such a damned shame. Now we have one white male republican empty suit being replaced by another one.
Absolutely. She's a former NC Supreme Court justice and a solid candidate. The Dems blew it big time by not flowing money into her race against empty-suit Ted Budd. That was a winnable race that the Democratic Party let slip through their fingers.

How disappointing about Beasley? I was hearing really positive things about her chances, and yet the Democrats blew it by not supporting her more.
