Put it this way: what are these people so afraid of? I posit it’s watching what’s happened to Black, Hispanic and otherwise marginalized folks who were unfortunate enough to fall afoul of Those In Power, i.e. them. It’s my experience most Trump voters are deeply frightened people without much real understanding of the forces that control their lives, hence their fervent desire for someone who platforms their fears and thereby confirms them as “reality.”
It doesn’t hurt when that someone can’t be shut. the. fuck. up., no matter how much damage he inflicts on reasonable people.
