Legally there is no way to do this. You are right that there used to be a way to nominate and move delegates from one candidate to another in the 1960s. After the 1968 election they changed this because delegates were moving from one candidate even though they “shouldn’t have” because that said candidate won the primary in that state. They enacted laws in each state based on different rules so that the delegates are required to provide their delegates to the winner of the primary (this changes from state to state. Some are 100% of the primary and some are proportional. Changes state to state based on election laws passed in said state AND they differ between the parties).

Biden has already won the convention. So has Trump. I think Biden surpassed the delegates needed to win the convention in late February or early march).

The convention is a coronation. It hasn’t functioned as anything but that for 50 years.
