Sonny, I have to apologize. A week ago I said I was too old to go to movies anymore but liked reading your reviews of them, and you were kind enough to like my comment. Now I am going to see "The Odyssey" this weekend at the insistence of a friend of mine, who saw it once already and loved it.
Mea culpa - or whatever that would be in Greek.
Fortunately, I'm not too worried about the skin color of a woman who is the product of a mortal and a god decked out like a swan.
I saw The Odyssey this week in IMAX and thought that it's absolutely awesome. The theater has added additional ealy morning showings because of the demand.
X is a shit hole of xenophobic bigotry led by fan boys who'd like a night with Elon. As for the rest of the pearl clutching Right, they're trying to be a Greek chorus but are more of a generalized background flatulence.
I went to see The Odyssey out of curiosity, like I go to see any film. Overall I didn't much care for the experience. I found the pacing too same, and that same was slow. There were moments, like the Cyclops and Circe sequences, that were masterful and remain in memory, but others, like the sack of Troy, just lacked energy, if not action.
I didn't feel any chemistry between Theron and Damon in their scenes, not even at the level of comfortable friends. Those scenes just feel flat to me.
I detested the score, regardless of the rationale behind it.
The performances overall were fine and for me, Hathaway steals the show.
That business about the story not being a realistic depiction of events is so stupid that I'm appalled anyone would be ignorant enough support it. Homer gathered stories and created an epic poem from them that was passed on, and likely changed, over many years before it was fixed in writing. The number of mutations to the story are unknowable. So any point about "realism" is BS.
When Odysseus finally made it back home, I was happy because it signaled that it would not be long before I could get out of the theater and return to my home.
I see what you did with the Greek Chorus, but I especially like the vision of the right moving in highly choreographed movements chanting, “Strophe… Antistrophe…” as they move back and forth across the outrage stage.
Christopher Nolan has established himself as one of those directors whom audiences will watch their movies simply because they directed it. So, yes, of course "The Odyssey" was going to be profitable.
From my personal standpoint, I really like his movies, and I look forward to watching "The Odyssey." His movies are both thought-provoking and fun to watch, and balancing the two successfully is a difficult thing to do.
Also, I'm not sure why conservatives would find Nolan to be a kindred soul. His movies don't strike me as political at all.
Given this (WOW! the new format is just WOW!) stupid heartburn about Nyong'o (a very beautiful woman) as Helen, one longs for the days when a much stronger Ripley protecting her child in Aliens was a hit. Nolan's joint is pretty much just as patriarchal as Homer's. Talk about a MAGA self-own.
