This is merely one of many worst-case scenarios to come. There is no return and the way ahead is unseen.

If you look at a good Mpls Mn. Street Map, see how interstate freeways and State Routes surround the city like a box.To near south of town is Airport and near east of that is Fort Snelling. Not to mention the rail for trains. This is Ice Academy. Hire and send them to learn in the real situation. Let's hope The Generals don't follow Hegseth's invitation to practice on cities

If you think they’re not coming for you, you are sadly mistaken…

It's a good thing that people are turning against ICE. But you wrote that 40% approve of the evil one's management of immigration. 40% is still a high number! Does this 40% live in caves? That number should be 5%, or at the very highest 10%. Actually, to qualify as a human being, it should be 0%.

I disagree. Our education system has been declining ever since we decided to "standardize" what is taught. Our schools are sorely underfunded, our teachers are sorely underpaid. Students no longer get a broader scope of education, touching into all disciplines, including things like art and music. I'm almost daily surprised (and disappointed) when I see examples of how little young adults know. Our history is a mystery to them. Civics are important, but overlooked. MAGA arose from this lack of education. Teaching to the test did much of the damage. Until we go back to believing education is extremely important and fund and teach accordingly, we will continue our slide.

"Bizarrely, I think this is the first time the comparison has ever been made in print at The Bulwark—you’d think we’d have hit it fifteen or twenty times by now."

I alone have compared Trump to the "child with godlike powers" in the famous Twilight Zone episode 15-20 times by now. But I also note the radical difference. Trump's "godlike powers" don't come internally from him, but from countless protectors who see him and his insatiable id and ego, as the perfect "useful idiot" to allow them to carry out their evil. Another radical difference is that Anthony is incapable of feeling fear, while Trump and his protectors can and do. They are cowards, emboldened only by their temporary safety in number. As William Kristol noted in the first section, Democrats in Congress can, and must, exploit that for the sake of their country.

"There’s an old episode of The Twilight Zone, 'It’s a Good Life,' that centers on a six-year-old boy, Anthony Freemont, who has the powers of a god."

That's coming up on my annual binge watch. Saw it about 10 times over the years. At least half of the 156 episodes carry some warning about the evil of authoritarianism. Another classic episode I saw again the other night was "The Obsolete Man." I won't give away the ending, but it makes it clear what everyone knows, even if too few admit it, that "strongmen" are cowards.

"A Quinnipiac poll shows only 40 percent of Americans approve of the way ICE is enforcing immigration laws, while 57 percent disapprove."

What's the "official" MAGA cult position (aka self-serving lie)? That 57% of Americans are "radical left," or that the poll was rigged by the "radical left?"

Everyone who dislikes what our representatives are doing or not doing should be calling their offices every day and registering their outrage, and get their friends and neighbors to do the same. 40% disapproval is nowhere near enough.

Exactly. That, not demonstrations, are how we need to channel our energy. Demonstrations can serve a purpose if they remain nonviolent, and are in addition to, not in lieu of, directly pressuring politicians. Buy they can backfire. The larger they are, the greater the probability of turning violent. And that's worse than doing nothing at all.

It's time to SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT again! ABOLISH ICE!

"The question is whether the Democratic party is going to go on the offensive."

You already know the answer, and that's the root of the problem.

For the first time, Mr. Kristol, I see a political pundit finally reaching a conclusion that was foregone and preordained many months ago: "Maybe it's time to stand and fight." But those words, by extension, include the real, if not likely, possibility that in doing so we will DIE. You listen to the tapes by Ross, et al., in the face of their victims (e.g., a very calm and collected Ms. Good), and it is self-evident that these uncontrolled monsters are also uncontrollable due to their internal turbulence, relentless hate, and feral natures. There is no answer, no recourse, no fix, no reckoning, no established law that can stop them. Can all you readers not accept this? (Note to Robyn Boyer: certainly Schumer and Jeffries didn't "get the memo", but they will pay for it with the untold number of future deaths of their constituents). The violence and killing will stop only when the donald's life stops; merely removing him from political process and elective office will not be effective. As I have said so many times - in this column and elsewhere - by nature, he is a warlike creature who gives battle to everything around him - and especially himself. I am dismissing his policies, lies, dementia, and his other associated baggage as irrelevant. I am speaking to the nature of his very soul: there is something very, very broken about this MAN that cannot be mended.

Of all the offenses this week and last, the one I can't get over is how Schumer and Jeffries have folded before even putting up even a weak fight. If those two don't get ousted by what I hope is a majority of the Dem caucuses who actually want to fight, I'll scream. I'm ashamed and embarrassed to be a Democrat right now.

PLEASE - the rest of our country needs to attend to what is happening in Mineapolis. An ICE agent has murdered Renee Good. The trump adminsration is not investigating the action of the ICE agent but have stated theirt intent to investigate the spouse of Renee Good!

The illegal occupation of Minneapolis by federal agents continues with people being dragged from their vehicles and beaten; private homes, often with children, entered with the use of battering rams; tear gas, pepper spray, flash bangs, and rubber bullets used indiscriminately against protesters, and public schools being raided in attempts to apprehend perceived illegal immigrants. All while residents of Minneapolis legally attempt to safeguard their families and neighbors, under duress.

We need the support of all allies from all 50 states of our United States to stand with us NOW, less we all cede our rights to the regime behind this incursion.

Mutual respect, ha. Trump doesn’t even know what that means.

I think the characterization of Trump as a child is spot on. Ms. Machado recognized that she had something he really wanted, but she was a fool to think it would buy her an advantage or cooperation in helping lead Venezuela toward freedom and democracy, as the child has no interest in either. He wants to dominate and make money, but will accept gold baubles with a grin.
