Other reviews have slightly suggested, some more so than others, that this isn’t really a good movie, not if you are intelligent film buff; that you are too good for straightforward cute fun; and above watching cute and funny with an obvious feel-good moral message.
They are wrong. If you want to enjoy a movie that is cute and funny without beating you over the head trying to be too preachy about a point of view you don’t want, this is it. Everyone is nice and trying to be good, well, except for the “murderers” (go see the move to find out why that is plural).
As someone who read the book (Three Bags Full) years ago, I am so so looking forward to this. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but it was so fun. An excellent beach read. The trailer looks fantastic! Very hopeful after this review
I went to see this with my daughter and my grandsons, on my son’s birthday, who is gone, and the beautiful treatment of how we remember those we have lost, made it a profound experience for this mom.
I took my daughter and her friend to this movie last night. TBH I didn’t think it was as good as the reviews state. They may have taken care with small touches in the film, but there are glaring plot issues. My 10 year old found certain scenes very disturbing. I found much of the sheep dialogue forced for adult consumption (but fine for kids). The thing I liked best is the arc of the police detective and how the supposedly stupid character is the first to catch on about what is happening. I agree that Thompson hit the mark perfectly. Not so much Louis-Dreyfus, although I love her. My all time favorite kid series that has a parallel adult story line is Netflix’s Lemony Snicket/series of unfortunate events. Very funny, very clever. For some reason, it did not disturb my daughter and I loved catching things she could not, like mistakingly calling the school headmaster Caligula.
I just saw it with my son, and I absolutely loved it. It reminds me of a little bit of Galaxy Quest. It manages to be a spoof of its genre, while also being an excellent example of its genre. Also, like Galaxy Quest, I found myself tearing up despite all the silliness. It's got a good heart.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film I saw it as a mash-up of Babe and Knives Out. Stand out voice over work from Brett Goldstein, Bryan Cranston, and Julia Louis Dreyfus.
It was a testament to their voice acting that despite loving all three actors, I had totally forgotten they were doing the voice work until credits rolled.
I can't believe I paid to go to the movies today to see a movie about talking sheep solving the homicide of their shepherd. But on Mother's Day weekend, when I asked my wife, the mother of our two grown children what she would like for a gift, she told me she really wanted to see the "Sheep Detectives". So there I sat on the day it opened locally, "sheepishly" enjoying this truly comic film that actually sends a strong, positive message about inclusion. Go see it, you will not be disappointed.
Well, I mean … I don’t think it IS pandering to the Christian right. Again, it’s very much a movie about the meek inheriting the Earth, you know? Which is … not really what the religious right is up to. And it’s all sotto voce, this isn’t an Angel Studios production or anything.
I've been waiting for this for months it seems. I have spent time with shepherds and their flocks (and dogs) and can think of no place in the world I'd rather be.

Did I mention Cute and Funny?
A delightful, thoroughly entertaining film ~ I may even go a second time to escape the nastiness of the world we currently live in.

This was a great movie. Thank you, Sonny, for the recommendation.
Glad you enjoyed!
Just stepped out of the theater. Delightful!

As was prophesized 😇
Thanks for letting me know about this. I rarely go to or watch movies even on t.v., but this sounds like something I would like.
I guess I know now what I'm going to be doing on Monday evening! :D

Doing the same for my wife tomorrow … and looking forward to it.
That’s great!
Right now I'm picturing "Babe" but a murder mystery, which sounds kind of great. Can you let me know whether this is "Babe" but a murder mystery?
I would not describe it precisely this way but I HAVE seen others describe it kind of like this. They also mention PADDINGTON.
"I would...describe it precisely...like...PADDINGTON."

Your review just turned me off from seeing this film.
I don't need or want pandering to the Christian right, so I thank you I can now save my money.

Okay, I take your point.
I just try to avoid anything that gives a whiff of thr Christian right, but that's my personal quirk.
How do we not ALL feel like that right now?
