While it was beside the point of the conversation, that was definitely my favorite part.

Anyone depressed about the big, ugly, ballroom construction starting? Much worse than having his mug on Mt Rushmore where we could more easily ignore it.

I keep dreaming the ballroom, the patio (rose garden) and gross flagpoles can be removed like Reagan removed Carter’s solar panels.

It's far, far down the list of priorities, but I'd like to see legislation that major changes, beyond cosmetic stuff like flooring or wallpaper, need 2/3 Senate approval or maybe renovations of this magnitude would need to go through a bipartisan committee. It's just bananas that he can unilaterally change a historical landmark like this.

You are spot on about this. It is something I have thought about too. If they can ever pass this, maybe they can pass legislation to severely limit presidential power.

They can be, though removing the ballroom will be quite the project.

What will prove tough to move is the orange felon in the Oval Office.

Putin is laughing at us. Donnie the coward fears him. Troops out of the cities now, send them to Europe.. war is coming, like it or not.

If Trump were the sort of president who would send troops to Europe, Putin would not be testing NATO's borders.

True. I'm actually waiting for the cartels to "remove" Trump, in their world it's called a hit. His phony war against the cartel's could backfire badly.

Around 5-6 minutes in - the Memphis area mayor & Tim's observations about sending military versus actual support & improvements for local law enforcement - excellent!

The application of military resources, including National Guard, for local law enforcement can accurately be described as "waste, fraud, & abuse."

WASTE, because the military is extremely expensive - not just the budgeted costs that WE are paying from the federal treasury (our taxes) but the costs to Nat Guard members themselves, taken from their homes for photo ops & lawn care, sleeping in tents instead of at home with their families, or in motels that WE pay for. Allocating those dollars to QUALIFIED local law enforcement (who have legit police powers), courts, diversion & drug treatment - under LOCAL control & accountability - would produce far more results for the buck than wasting those $$$ on a military show.

FRAUD, because Nat Guard and uniform troops DO NOT have legit police powers & aren't integrated into local law enforcement, DA offices, courts. Troops can't arrest shoplifters, speeders or drug dealers. They can't investigate a murder or a carjacking. They CAN'T do law enforcement in our neighborhoods.

ABUSE, because - do I really need to explain "quartering large bodies of armed troops among us"? You needn't be stationed in my actual house to abuse the rights of citizens to live free without military occupation.

Hey you had comments disabled on your prev Bulwark Takes with Mike Feinberg -- happy to see him here, we need his expertise now more than ever. Wish he was still in the bureau, hate that we've lost so much talent there. Please have him back. He needs a diff mic and maybe a puff of Afrin but I'm sure you guys will work out all the podcasting stuff. Regardless, his input is really helpful and I hope to see more of him. It's shameful the way he was treated, I kno he'd prob prefer to still be working behind the scenes but I'm glad we get to talk to him at the Bulwark

Tim, Great work with Nicole on the issues addressed. The commentary and analysis was sound. Absolutely correct on the main point, if the Republicans cared about crime they could do something about it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they use it as a scapegoat for their own crimes. It takes time for even a tree to grow to produce its fruit. Continued efforts against this would be dictator will deliver a bounty in do time. The shift against Trump won't be seismic but more subtle as his actions ramifications become more apparent. The Dems, and all the rest of us, need to keep the pressure on.
