I was very glad to read the piece about Lizzo. Like Mona, I find twerking worrisome and don’t particularly like the over sexualized dress that Lizzo wears - but women in performance arts are often seen in very sexualized clothing - so that’s a dead horse we don’t need to beat right here.

What was most astounding (beyond the transcendently beautiful music that Lizzo chose for her performance) is that rather than focus on Madison’s status as a slave holder, she gave a fairly upbeat account - that 2 items were saved when the White House burned, the portrait of Washington and Madison’s flute. Nor did she point out that the house was built by slaves.

I volunteer at a National Park site and a big issue for the Park Service is the concern that our parks are frequented mostly by old white folks like myself. Museums have much the same concern. But here Lizzo showed that the western music tradition is hers as much as mine.

So the very opposite of woke.

Here's what is so sad about all of this Hershel Walker news. Herschel is a damaged man. I suspect he has CTE, and he's spoken about his mental illness. He has no business being a US senator. The Republican establishment knows this, and yet they don't care. If Walker becomes a senator, Mitch will just give him the daily talking points, instructions on how to vote, etc. And every reporter will chase Hershel around to get a crazy soundbite from the Georgia football hero.

However, if Walker loses to Warnock, what's going to happen to Hershel? You think the Republicans want him around anymore? I doubt it. They'll throw him out like trash, and Hershel will be an even more damaged man, having been used and abused by the Republican party.
