Pretty interesting bit of history about Powell and the emphasis on WMD’s…I remember being a fairly young 20 something, and I supported the invasion, but remember being a bit disillusioned when we didn’t find WMD’s.
1. We are attack the 17th largest nation in the world. It is 2 1/2 the size of Texas and for a better view. measure the US from the gulf of Mexico to Canada. It's 662,300 Square miles {I read this some time ago so correct me if I am wrong.
2. It's culture goes back to prehistory. It's citizens are very well educated. It has very fine university programs. It's too bad religious zealotry has taken over the nation. Better than the former leadership; is a question I can't answer, but for the young people, they both are not the direction to a free country.
3. Iran will eventually have the nuclear device. Like Israel they will never admit it, until the see a nationally destructive attack and then they will use it.
4. If Kamani is dead, another Alitalia will replace him.
5. I would like to know what map the Pentagon presented to him to discuss the attack. It it was Mercader I want them hung for treason. They knew he could not process that kind of map. He is too ignorant.
Another Trump temper tantrum and breaking of the whole foundation of his presidency and that of MAGA's mantra "no new wars".
This one is stupid beyond measure and based on lie after lie after lie after lie.
The idea that Iran posed an "imminent threat" (yes, the laying sack of **** Trump actually said that) to the United States is so absurd and ridiculous.
This is a dumb war of choice for domestic reasons to take attention away from the AWFUL job and falling polls of this ass hat.
Besides the effort to distract from the Epstein files debacle.
The child-like demented mind of the Mad King thinks that a "rally around the flag" event will take place. But the OPPOSITE is going to probably happen.
Yes, the spinless Republicans in Congress will kiss his as, as usual, but prominent MAGA voices are already strongly condemning this bull****.
This is as far as realpolitik can take us. How about noting the responsibility of the members of Congress in whose hands lie the constitutional authority for declaring war.
We all know how difficult the unyielding stance of MAGAts in the grip of Trump has proven to be. How about a thought experiment. Suppose by the middle of this past week the Democrats in the House and Senate had split the House and Senate Republican members among themselves one on one, in order to urgently explore properly exercising their formal Constitutional authority to declare war, and to join together in conducting such a review and vote in both houses.
Several outcomes might have been possible. A nearly universal No would send the Dems. forth to the Capitol steps, announce their attempt, and assign responsibility for Republican failure to operate constitutionally. Or they could have secured assent to the Congressional consideration but nonetheless watch it voted it down. Again, who was responsible for the war would have been clearly assigned to Trump and his MAGAts. Or, alternatively, taking it before both houses of Congress could have allowed the discussion and debate and public reaction before the ballots were cast to have its impact.
That ,of course, did not transpire. Yet another failure of our existing Constitutional framework has stood revealed. It is one of nearly thirty identifiable such Constitutional lapses revealed since January 20, 2025 that must be corrected before another dozen or so years pass if America has any chance of surviving as a liberal democratic republic into the second third of the 21st century.
Bush Sr. also said after the first Gulf War in 1991 that it was up to the people to overthrow Saddam Hussein: "In my own view...the Iraqi people should put [Saddam] aside, and that would facilitate the resolution of all these problems that exist and certainly would facilitate the acceptance of Iraq back into the family of peace-loving nations."
It sounded great at the time. How did that work out?
Guaranadamnteed orange 🍊 face hasn't read the book. Bibi, maybe. Props for the entertainment enterprise that passes for leadership. On both sides. These vile leaders are both avoiding court cases
The question I ask myself is what comes now. The clerics are assembling to select a new supreme leader. Will he just step into the same role with no real change? The supreme leader was, after all, 84 and not going to live forever. The key is the military leadership, the Republican Guard. It was them that put down the last protests. Will the strikes, or have they already attacked this leadership? If there is a plan, nobody has said what it is. Turning things over to the Iranian people is not a plan unless they have a coordinated leader. The Shah’s son is just a repeat of what kicked off the last regime change. I guess a second major question is whether Trump puts boots on the ground before Congress can act to prevent it, and will Trump care what they say. You will notice that NATO has not acted. I seriously doubt they will. A lot of unknowns.
I cannot help but be reminded of the movie Wag the Dog and every other action he’s taking that seem to be taken from movies. Movies where there’s no accountability and where people just cheer when something blows up. I think he is already sick in the head and deeply supported by some of the worst humans on the planet. Where the fuck is Congress?
Don't think Donnie's besties, the Saudis, didn't have some influence here. From golf to gulf oil and from fun sword dances to the seas around the Saudis. In spite of some recent diplomatic exchanges with Iran, the Saudis without publicity or loudly demanding Iran be punished, had interests and influence in tRump's unconstitutional war.
Another question i have is what other countries in the region will come under fire? How about Iran-backed Houthi forces who control northern Yemen, which might also please the Saudis? United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar also have strained relationships with the Saudis.
But, bottom line, the Saudis are very much influencing king tRump.
Doesn't that eventually affect the price of oil in the US? We no longer depend on oil from the Middle East, but the market is global now. It will be fun watching Trump say oil prices are down,
The usefulness of a war to interfere with free elections is in Project 2025. Plus...the Epstein files!! Fallen out of the news entirely today, I notice.
There is some information leaking out that suggests that US/Israel may have had human and/or signals intelligence about a meeting of leaders in the compound, and that they had been waiting for this to happen so that they could attempt to decapitate as much of leadership as possible. If this proves to be the case (and it may be hard to verify), then the start date of the war was always going to be contingent on favorable facts on the ground and everything else (negotiations, etc) was just a screen to protect intelligence sources.
Gosh, start a Middle East war the weekend before big primary elections , patriotic MAGA rush to the polls on Tuesday? I expect a bigger blue wave now.

It will be more "rally AGAINST TRUMP"!!!
Good piece today from Timothy Snyder: https://snyder.substack.com/p/why-attack-iran?r=9oz3r&utm_medium=ios

Pahlavi wouldn't last a day. The Republican Guard would assassinate him. Most people still remember and hate the Shah.

Now, can someone please find the Congress?
Congress will not act unless their constituents demand it, as they did with the nearly unanimously passed Epstein Accountability Act.
The Houthis are threatening to start attacking shipping again. They’re funded by Iran.
