You should do an entire episode on the great film 12 Monkeys. My favorite film as a teenager in the 1990s, I watched it again recently and it stands the test of time. Best acting I’ve ever seen by both Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt (his first Oscar nomination).
I’m currently watching the 12 Monkeys Sci-Fi original series version from 2015-2018. Nothing can top the movie though. Along with the original Blade Runner, I consider 12 Monkeys to be the finest Sci-fi film of all time.
I am reading "The Coming Plague" by Laurie Garrett. I'm in the middle of the chapter on the first known Ebola outbreaks in Zaire and Sudan in the 1970s. The book makes for gripping reading (especially if you like medical history, as I do). It was published over 30 years ago, but the cautions in it are still relevant today. I am also feeling sad as I read it, because the US was one of the very few world leaders that could investigate the Ebola outbreak, especially given the kind of extreme lab conditions required to study the virus itself. The CDC lent investigators and equipment and worked closely with the WHO and other countries. The CDC lab in Atlanta was THE place to send blood and tissue samples. Needless to say, the US also spent a lot of money on this. Meanwhile, Trump and Musk and others (Vought, Kennedy) have made sure we no longer have the skilled staff nor money to do that kind of work. It truly is terrifying to think how bad off we will be when the next pandemic happens.
We watched it in High School (1995). I didn’t know AIDS was GRID except for this movie. I think the ensemble cast was the most stand out thing about the ads for the movie. A lost of A-List cameos.
Gwyneth Paltrow was patient zero, not kate winslet
Wait... And the Band Played On is a HISTORY of the early years of the HIV epidemic. The movie can't possibly do that, but the book is non-fiction.
Really enjoyed this conversation. Must add “And the Band Played On” to my watch list. Thanks!

I was very affected by that movie. I still think about the ending of it.
