Are voters finally beginning to realize that Trump is treating the country like his casinos in Atlantic City. He promises great wonderful things by destroying all that previously existed there, rebuilding it his own vision, and then leaving it all behind sad and decrepit after enriching himself.

The Navy used to be a separate Cabinet department .... opportunity? And I think Eisenhower called it the "military - industrial - CONGRESSIONAL" complex. There are military related industries and bases in each congressional district.

"War Industrial Complex"?

Trump said that the name change to "Department of Defense" was after WWII when we became "woke."

Funny thing, the men and women who won WWII used to be called "The Greatest Generation," but now it turns out, they were just too "woke" for these new MAGA warmongers.

"Smoking" human beings in a boat, even if they were smugglers, is the language of a psychopath.

Hegseth, like Trump, thinks life should be like a TV show or movie. Hegseth's line is straight out a TV action flick. Such a shallow, immature jerk. We used to have adults

as SecDef and in the other cabinet. positions. Now...forget it.

Yes, as much as I might have disagreed (vehemently) with previous cabinet members' policy positions and actions, I never saw them as shallow or ignorant. Evil, maybe, in the case of Bill Barr, who certainly had a brain, and even W himself, whom many comedians lambasted as a fool, at least had a beating heart.

These people really are out of The Godfather and The Sopranos. Thugs, and stupid thugs, at that.

Huffpost called The Bulwark a anti-trump conservative site... 🫠🫠🙄

The tech bros & gals at trump’s gathering were absolutely cringey. Their sycophantic groveling was over the top and obvious while he basked in it. Yuck O Rama!

Trump will claim that the name change to "war department" projects strength, thus discouraging other nations from attacking us or any of our friends. Oh, that's right....we don't have any friends.

Over and over again, Trump on the campaign trail said "No war" during his previous administration. That is part of what America First means to his supporters - isolationism no foreign adventures and populist taking care of American workers at home.

Which of course was an obvious sham to win votes and nothing more. He's been saber-rattling ever since winning a second term and now he wants the Department of Defense to be the Department of War.

Fun fact: the Nazis changed the name of Germany's Ministry of Defense (Reichswehr) to the Ministry of War (Reichskriegsministerium) in 1935.

Douglas Peterson's avatar

Wow! Thank you. I am learning more and more about 1930s Germany every day just by watching today's news. And I thought I already had a good grasp of the history of that era.

Well, when you're not a war it should cost less!

Janet, you make way too much sense for these lawless days.

I think Kegsbreath wanted to be known as Secretary of War and Trump’s inferiority was triggered by the Modi, Putin, Xi summit.

He changed the name as a direct threat to Russia, China and India because they don’t want him in their club. Rejected. His Achilles heel. This is a good reason not to have a baby man in charge of our nuclear weapons.

The best way to win the nobel peace price is to rename the DOD the department of war.
