Tim Miller joins Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House to take on America’s slide into political violence, Trump’s immigration agenda, and the disturbing Republican response to recent assassinations in Minnesota.
I have searched and searched for the actual attendance at Trump's parade, to no avail. The only number out there is the 250,000 (absurd) presented by the White House. There's even a Reddit chat on the same topic. This is in contrast to the count (estimated 4 - 6 million) of the 2,000+ No Kings protests. Any ideas on what's up with this?
There are photos of the parade route, with grandstand bleachers on both sides. You could count people seated for one block and multiply by the number of blocks to get an estimate.
The AI robot at google search (not checked by me for accuracy) said several thousand civilians plus almost 7000 military.
"How many attended the 250th Army parade?
The parade involved around 6,600 soldiers from at least 11 corps and divisions nationwide, with at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, warplanes, horses, mules, parachutists, celebrities, seven bands' musical performances, several thousand civilian attendees, and a dog named Doc Holliday."
1) Today's hearing 2 pm Minneapolis time, noon Calif time, is to speed things up, being remote (zoomed?) to reduce travel, Thus, the screen may show more than normal, documents etc. Wonder if the retired generals will submit things again saying there is not insurrection (look up SC attack on Fort Sumter, April, 1861, to see what a true insurrection looks like.
2) Terrible about judge's son murdered after a shooter listened to hateful rhetoric.
3) There are conservatives who think if they say ONCE to their followers not to get violent, that's enough. Several did that on Sat, including Gov Abbott in TX, Pres T. Not believable unless they start saying it loudly and often. The prior 100 hateful things said that inspired these killings are not countered by just one opposite statement.
U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas is the judge whose son was murdered by someone who objected to her ruling on a case.
She and others started the group Speak Up for Justice, https://speakupforjustice.law/, which has Zoom meetings each month. The next is coming up on 26 June.
(1 pm Mountain time, 2pm Central/Chicago time, 3pm Eastern/NY time)
Recall that, last Thur, Judge Breyer handed out a 30ish page ruling favoring Newsom over Trump. Note that several retired US generals submitted paperwork saying Pres T overstepped. The pres got a "stay" until today's hearing, was allowed to continue his escalation (no federal law disobeyed as ICE allowed to do its work, presume Pres wants protesters to try to stop ICE so his escalation is also in that direction)
If Pres loses 9th Circuit appeal, he either stops trying to control the Calif Nat Guard or he appeals to the Supreme Court.

Listen to Jon Stewart Monday night from 13:00. Frightening discussion of GOP threatening violence and Civil War on Dems. Also GOP lack of interest in gun safety while they are rabid about immigrants. https://youtu.be/3Q08a7BI9XI?feature=shared
Senators like Mike Lee, who lie repeatedly about life and death issues solely for political gain, are the lowest form of human life. That guy deserves every bad thing that is coming his way in the afterlife.
All you need to know right now is that the Trump people are trying to establish a fascist dictatorship in the U.S. If you need to know more about what that means, I suggest looking up "fascist" and "dictatorship" on Wikipedia.
It's actually quite simple. If people in the Executive Branch are trying to do it or Republicans in Congress are trying to do it then it is bad for the country and our society.
And if you look on Amazon (under books) you can get Politics for Dummies and even American Politics For Dummies.
How about 'These Truths – A History of the United States' by Jill Lepore (2018)? It covers politics from the founding to modern times. According to the BBC recommendation: These Truths is the perfect civics book for these times. It is not a story of "relentless progress", notes The New York Times Best Books of 2018, "but of conflict and contradiction, with crosscurrents of reason and faith, black and white, immigrant and native, industry and agriculture rippling through a narrative that is far from completion."
That's such a great question. Both Heather Cox Richardson and Jon Stewart are easy to understand and give you a good view of what's happening now. And you'll get that historical context from HCR. But I'm trying to think of a book to give you the bigger picture about how politics works in the US, and how we've gotten to this crazy ultra-partisan moment, where we can't even agree on basic facts. Something that would take you through like the last 100 years, but especially focusing on the last 50.
Ideas, anyone? And Secrets, let me know if I didn't explain what you are looking for the right way. What do you get particularly confused about, or where do you just feel totally lost?

You’re right. Someone could count the number from the video of the parade. I’m surprised some organization hasn’t done it.
Actually, someone on the Reddit chat stated that Newsmax had estimated 10,000, but no one could find the reference to that.
What happened to Terry Moran is outrageous.
"....deep brain rot...." BRILLIANT!

Spare a little time for the Big Bullshit Bill, as well

Fantastic book. Jill Lepore is a gifted writer and analyst. No worries anyone considering picking it up. It reads like a novel, not like a textbook.
