I admit I like the new Trump, who has lost all inhibitions and says whatever stupid/cruel/deranged thing is flitting through his mind. Enjoy, Republicans !

Tim Coffey's avatar

Of course, Republicans will claim to have not seen Trump's comments...

Richard Kane's avatar

Or that we "take them out of context" as if magats know the meaning of context.

Steven Insertname's avatar

How dare the librul media quote Trump exactly!

Maribeth's avatar

The MAGAe believe that since their vehicles cost twice as much to fill up than it did a year ago that the tank now holds twice as much gas. Next they will think they’re getting a great deal at the grocery store when they see two 8 ounce bottles of something for twice last year’s price for one 16 ounce bottle—but this year they’re getting 2 bottles for the price of one. 😂

V J's avatar

I've already heard some of this version,

David Court's avatar

...or heard, at least not paid attention if some sound eminated from his food hole.

Kate Fall's avatar

That's so 2020. Nowadays, they just say, "I'm sure Mr. President was right."

Gerald Granath's avatar

Looking forward to the damaging comment(s) Trump makes on his visit to China. Keep the cameras rolling news media.

Richard Kane's avatar

What's sad is we're going to have to depend on China's and other foreign media to know the truth about the visit.

dcicero's avatar

Probably something about how the egg rolls at Mar-a-Lago are better…

I had no idea Trump was self-censoring before. Truly a harrowing thought.

"New"? He's just casting a wider net! He's still the same guy who took out an ad against the Central Park 5 and later completely misled his banks.

Steve Schmidt has his usual blunt take on Trump's latest thoughtless comments: https://steveschmidt.substack.com/p/the-quote-that-kills-maga

Steven Branch's avatar

LHS, thanks for the link to Steve Schmidt's commentary. Of course, reading his words does not have the same gravitas as him speaking them. That's where he really shines.

dcicero's avatar

Nicely written, but those Lincoln Project guys haven’t been able to bring home the bacon even once, so….

They make content that Democrats and Never Trumpers like, but they haven’t been able to turn anything into a victory yet.

JMP's avatar

I love Steve's optimism. He believes the end of Trump and his cronies is near. I hope he is right.

Arugula's avatar

Trump has such a childish way of speaking and contradicts himself constantly. It is becoming challenging for even his sycophants to sane-wash him.

dcicero's avatar

But they still manage to do it.

Kate Fall's avatar

That's why they brought in professionals at the NY Times like Maggie Haberman.

I don't think it's helping all that much.

Marcia's avatar

I agree that Republicans deserve every bit of the pain that tRumpy Dumpty can inflict with his “stupid/cruel/deranged” blathering.

But how can we counter the inevitable claims that “well, obviously that’s AI because the president would never say such a thing”?

David Court's avatar

Just point out that, assuming that is so, if it weren't for "AI" he'd have no "I" at all.

Had a short convo with magat on FB recently. She was very worried about being bombed by Iran. I noted that since she and I both live in Iowa she has a much greater chance at getting cancer. Crickets

Deutschmeister's avatar

“Not even a little bit,” said (you know who). “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

That’s the only video clip Democrats will need this fall.

-----

This fall? Go ahead and start running it now. Don't let it get lost in the shuffle later on. Run it every time there is bad economic news. Run it whenever you think people need a reminder that we (re)elected the most selfish, immature, incompetent President in the history of this nation. No need to wait. If he wants to set himself up on a tee for us to take swings at his utter indifference to anyone's situation and circumstances but his own, yeah, sure, see how much distance you can get out of it. He understands the concept of golf just fine. He doesn't understand the concept of the real world that the rest of us live in. Make him own it, now and forever.

God almighty, I loathe the people who voted him into office, and quadruple so the ones who thought putting him back in was a good idea. Every day a little more, their own selfishness and stupidity is revealed and warrants as much scorn and shame as we humanly can put them through for what they did to the rest of us, and to the rest of the free world.

ScottG's avatar

I told my wife this yesterday-why aren't we seeing this clip EVERYWHERE? Get Pete on Fox News and make the Trump syncophants over there defend it!

Richard Kane's avatar

Absolutely! Why wait until the Fall???

Dave Yell's avatar

As Lee Atwater once said: "We are going to make this bastard his VP".

David Court's avatar

But get it on Faux News somehow, and the other sources of "news" that the MAGAts watch, listen to, are drinking Kool-Aid to. NOT JUST the legacy media; too easy for MAGAts to disregard.

JMP's avatar

YES, YES, YES. We MUST infiltrate the opposition press and social media sites to get this out to the voters whose minds we need to change. This seems to be the one thing Dems DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Get our media darlings out there to the places MAGA and soft independents live!!! It's not that complicated. Preaching to the choir on friendly sites like MSNOW is not going to win over gettable voters. Come on!

JMP's avatar

You are so right, Deutschmeister! I completely relate and agree with Sarah's anger on the most recent podcast with Tim and JVL. She can't understand why people aren't out in the streets, why aren't there ads and billboards magnifying Trump's worst statements and policies? The whole country seems to be angry, but, as she says, it is mostly Boomers who are making a stand. Where is everybody else? We cannot give in to helpless self pity or hopelessness. Are the Dems hoarding their money until it's closer to the midterms or something? Big mistake. People are angry NOW and Dems need to point out Trump's foolish mistakes and his responsibility for the mess we are in RIGHT NOW and keep it up so it reaches a CRESCENDO in the fall. I don't know what is motivating Dems in office - they must know Americans want fighters and aggressive push back to the chaos and destruction that Trump is creating. Start using the Lincoln Project tactics!! Now is not the time to be reticent.

Kim Z's avatar

This was my reaction as well! This should be up IMMEDIATELY in every district/state with a competitive race!

Spencer $ Sally Jones's avatar

We shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that djt’s “financial people” are deliberately devaluing our dollars. Their rationale is this will help exports. Printing more money 💰 so they can throw around a billion here and a trillion there fuels faster inflation. IMO most people care more about having the dollars they earn and save keep their value so budgets make sense.

Steven Insertname's avatar

I think he meant "the fall of the USA". For which we all have a front row seat!

The montage idea seems like a good one. But the audio issue in this clip can be resolved if/as needed with captioning. His exact words should not get lost after the fact amid his other daily bombardments. He said it. He owns it. He's not even subtle anymore about not giving a sh*t about anyone but himself and his own interests. His supporters, in Congress and elsewhere, need to be held accountable too. They had other choices for President in 2024. But they dropped everything, including their own morality, to pick him. This clip particularly hammers home what a poor choice it was. We must make them own it too.

Robin's avatar

I "saw" the clip half asleep in bed this morning and the first thing I thought was that every democratic PAC and candidate need to start running it continuously. I think it is possibly the most damaging thing he has publicly said in full view of the media in years, because it was off the cuff, not part of a sit down interview (where the MSM was tricking him into saying something), and not part of some extended riff. And he was VERY deliberate in saying it. Hell, leave in the part about not letting Iran get a nuke. The percentage of Americans who care more about Iran not getting a nuke versus not being able to afford groceries and gas is vanishingly small, even amongst his hardcores.

M. Trosino's avatar

RE: Iran & The Bomb

As long as the mullahs in Tehran have the Strait of Hormuz and we have Donald Trump, Iran doesn't *need* a nuclear weapon to work its will on the rest of the world.

Just consider the Strait as the cleanest source of kilotons ever to come along, with none of that pesky radioactive fallout to deal with and with the only actual enrichment going on being that of Big Oil, with Aramco, the world's biggest oil company, now reporting a 25% rise in Q1 profits...

https://apnews.com/article/aramco-saudi-arabian-oil-ab384a52510f7af0c1e5629889742285

Note: I haven't checked on the price of eggs lately, but I expect any rise in the price now will not only reflect increased energy costs but also the decrease in availability due to the amount of that particular grocery commodity continually dripping off the face of our Commander in Chief.

A Boy Named Pseu(donym)'s avatar

Guys, we all just need to learn how to do Trump math. It's a two step process: First, check the price on an item, close your eyes, and multiply it by two. Second, open your eyes and look at the price tag again. It's half off! Prices are down, down I say!

J AZ's avatar

Pseu - sorry to point out your math error. The correct calculation is 500% reduction

M. Trosino's avatar

Trump Math is so tricky. I thought I'd take a course in it at Trump University to try to get a handle on it but...well, you know.

J AZ's avatar

In math I did okay, I had the _second_ best numbers 😉 But I flunked Real Estate Ethics... yeah, turns out I HAD some...

Tim Coffey's avatar

Trump: "I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon."

< Tim starts laughing heartily >

This reminds me of "The Exorcist", believe it or not, when Father Merrin told Father Karras prior to exorcising Regan, "The demon is a liar. He will lie to confuse us; but he will also mix lies with the truth to attack us." Trump indeed doesn't think about anybody, but his reasons for attacking Iran shift on an hourly basis.

rlritt's avatar

And he certainly doesn't care about nuclear weapons. He is still fuming over the Iranians deciding to charge a 2 million dollar toll per ship going thru the strait. That's when he did (not) block the Strait. He wants his cut. Its all about the money he can skim.

Tim Coffey's avatar

If he cared about nuclear weapons, he would have stayed in the JCPOA. He didn't, and now here we are.

David Court's avatar

Instead, the JCPOA had to go because the hated OBAMA made it happen.

Steven Insertname's avatar

The biggest problem Trump had with the JCPOA is the signature at the bottom. Doubt he could tell you anything else about it.

JMP's avatar

Everything he opposes is just "bad, very bad, the worst deal ever" yet he NEVER explains what exactly is bad about anything he opposes. Being a moron, he is incapable.

R Mercer's avatar

It is the worst deal ever because it wasn't his deal, did not have his name on it.

Of course, he will say the same thing about his old deals, if he thinks you do not know it was one of his deals... like the renegotiation and renaming of NAFTA.

Tim Coffey's avatar

Especially the snapback provisions in the agreement that would kick in if Iran wasn't complying with the deal.

JMP's avatar

We had nosy inspectors from several different countries involved with making sure Iran was complying. With the death of the JCPOA, there is nothing holding Iran back.

Richard Kane's avatar

He knew that the JCPOA was standing in the way for extorting Iran. It blew up in his (and our) faces.

Tim Coffey's avatar

When a sociopath is also an idiot, they never see around corners.

JMP's avatar

When a sociopathic idiot is running the country, alarm bells should be ringing. Surely Republicans can see how this is damaging America. What are they so afraid of? They SHOULD be afraid of living in the type of country that Trump and his minions are trying to create. Do they not care about their children and grandchildren? It will be bad for EVERYBODY. Courage is sadly lacking in the political elite class.

Tim Coffey's avatar

What are they so afraid of? Living with their constituents. Not being a member of the House or the Senate, where they have staff to look after their needs. Placating Trump is the price they pay for staying in what Tom Nichols calls "The Emerald City". Consequences are for other people, JMP. Not them.

David Court's avatar

Note the article in today's NYT online that HIS DOJ is talking about "deal" to SETTLE his and his family's suit against the IRS, filed at $10 BILLION for the leaking of the tax returns he promised and never turned over.

Not every low-info voter in America knows who Bibi and the Likud party are. They do know the brand "Israel" though.

This is also the part where you tap into "Bad JVL" sentiments and turn conspiratorial voters off from Trump support. They don't think "Israel" stops at Bibi, they think it goes beyond that.

Satan and his demons have more power over the Republican party than people think. Evil has existed throughout history and America is not immune to it. Trump is definitely under his sway.

No 1 Potato Boys Fan's avatar

It’s incredible watching Trump steer himself into this dead end alley.

“We had the best economy ever.”

“I knew what the cost of this war would be.”

“We have totally destroyed their nuclear program.”

“Oil is coming down.”

“I don’t care for the financial concerns of Americans.”

Let me be clear, it’s not incredible because I think it will have some sort of profound effect on the 30% golden calf worshipping cult. It’s fascinating because it’s a new level of spinelessness unlocked for the rest of the GOP. Imagine being Jen Kiggans in VA-2. You’re facing fire for agreeing with a racist in saying Hakeem Jeffries has “cotton-picking hands.” Your own district voted for the redistricting referendum. And now your President says he doesn’t care that the cost of living for your constituents has gone up significantly because of the illegal war he started. May we all pray together for the political downfall of Jen Kiggans and have a good laugh as she loses.

I cringe to think how much of the store Trump will give to China. Dragging all the tech bros along with him doesn't add much to my confidence the US won't get fleeced.

Trump is not really lying much anymore. He's just spewing fantasy bull shit and it's so out there it's jaw dropping. Not sure that actually qualifies as lying when it's not remotely believable.

Jeff the Original's avatar

I agree! Trump is so desperate to get anything resembling a win...it's scary to think what he'll sacrifice our country for to get it. Remember...that he doesn't care about how it impacts the people...

Carolyn Phipps's avatar

The thought of Trump sitting down with Xi gives me a strong sinking feeling. This will not go well for the country.

JMP's avatar

Xi, Putin, King Charles.... every world leader knows what a fool Trump is and how easily manipulated, although even they are probably stunned at his vapid stupidity. It leaves the autocrats licking their lips, while the democracies probably weep in the corners for the downfall of America.

JMP's avatar

And not a single expert on China has been invited to go with Trump. I am so angry that such a fool is allowed to do this. Most Republicans know better. They are complicit in everything Trump destroys.

max skinner's avatar

I wonder about the tech bros. Are they going to cut their own deals with China outside of whatever diplomatic things the president might think he's going to do? I'd say yes. They're just letting the president come along for the ride. He'll go along with whatever they agree to. He won't back down on "tariffs" because they are magic but the bros will show him how those things are still in place and then he'll shrug and talk about the ballroom.

"Trumpian BSing, in it's ubiquitous presence, is worse than normie lying, because lying presumes a domain in which truth matters,"

Exactly. While his cultists may lap it up for various reasons, normies interpret it as continuous assaults on their intelligence. It's an ugly place to be when truth is in the eyes of the beholder and a third of the country doesn't believe their lyin' eyes.

Liz V's avatar

Well, okay, Donald. So, Americans are on board with tighten their belts and enduring all of this suffering because you are such a brilliant leader. Quick question: why are you still spending OUR tax dollars on your vanity projects?

Oldandintheway's avatar

Because he is the greatest president we ever had, and he knows we should honor him forever. A big arch, a huge stature, the greatest ballroom, the swimming lagoon, maybe a golf course on the mall, and then shutting down Congress and using the Capitol for WWE matches.

J AZ's avatar

There’s a poignant fact here: at some level he knows there won’t be any such things built for or dedicated to him to him once he’s gone. No Lincoln Memorial, no Reagan Airport, not even an Obama Library. He still hears echoes of the laughter in that Correspondents Dinner years ago. So he enshittifies Americas landscape with monuments to himself while he can.

Sad. Empty. Lonely. He never heard the simple message The Beatles sent back in 1967 on the Our World broadcast… guess he was too busy studying at Wharton

Trump decided he didn't want to go thru the complicated hassle and hard work of actually *earning* accolades like statues and arches, so he's just going to build all the stuff and then back fill the story about why.
