I wish I could drive these children to school myself. I am a teacher, I love children and I'm heartbroken they can't go to school, or their parents cannot get food. This is cruel and heartbreaking.

Why don’t Americans and all protest organizations and Bulwark writers tell people to BOYCOTT ALL big companies that support Trump or ignore his attacks on democracy, including Amazon, which means also their Prime and Whole Foods? Now that SCOTUS has made it Impossible to prosecute Trump for lawbreaking, the only way he’ll stop is to get HUNDREDS OF BIG CEOs to pressure him! Money, and approval from the powerful, mean more to him than anything. So turn both against him! Also, uniting to boycott the rich and powerful gives us citizens something TO DO together besides march and wave signs.

Thank you, Adrian, for shining a light on Mr. Villegas-Gonzalez’s killing (I hope I have the name right). His story should be getting more attention beyond Chicago. Specifically, we should have more details on just what happened- did he aim for the ICE agents, did they grab on to his car as he tried to drive away, did the ICE agent have a chance to let go and let him get away?

Saying that, though, I’m ashamed I find it so easy to imagine situations where ICE would be justified in shooting him like that. Maybe if he gunned for the ICE agents and their clothes got stuck in the car or something so they couldn’t withdraw and were getting dragged behind him. But what are the odds of that? Most likely they could have jumped aside but didn’t want to. Most likely he was just trying to get away. There’s no evidence I’ve seen that he was some dangerous criminal, much less that ICE had any reason to think he was. He was a dad dropping his kids off at school, for Pete’s sake.

It’s the callousness that’s really getting to me. And the just disregard for his worth as a human. I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m not. But if people can look at his story and not be upset, they need to pay more attention to their soul. :-(

I'm a Chicagoan, and I can tell you that our resistance is strong and will not abate, but our hearts are breaking for our Latino communities and neighbors. I'm sitting here trying to keep a cool head and I'm helping however I can, but despite donating and organizing and marching and making calls, we feel helpless, as well, because we know that now the Gestapo leader from the border guard has arrived today, that it's going to get uglier. Thanks for boosting our signal and every city's that is under attack from our own government. We are in solidarity with Memphis and Boston and LA and wherever they send their ghouls next to destroy innocent lives. It's disheartening to learn how many MAGA types live here, but I can tell you that there are still more of us, more human beings with brains and hearts, than the others, and we will help each other however we can. It's what makes our city so awesome. Please keep us on your journalistic radar and in your hearts, with gratitude and love.

Even though I left the USA in 1999 after 2 and a bit years and returning to the UK; my access to citizenship was an easy path.

I had a green card to work, a good job and what became apparent, that was white.

I studied by never took the citizenship test, partly down to what I was experiencing, which culminated in what turned out to be my LAST works function, when I got asked by a work colleague that I was stopping a citizen of the USA from a job, which gobsmacked me, as I hadn't caused a stir, other than my enthusiasm to do the job.

I started looking differently after that whilst living and working in New Jersey/New York area.

My point is the USA I left behind was a hotch potch of cultures, sometimes working, sometimes not, but the feeling I had was that we all got along.

It is getting similar here in the UK, with the migrant crisid, with boats across the English Channel from France and in the back of trucks via the Euro Tunnel.

ANYONE who escapes torture because of race, religion or war should always be welcomed.

I spent 18 years of my life in military service and have unfortunately seen the very worst of humanity.

The situations in the USA and UK may not be a conventional war, but one of the loss of our humanity and love for our fellow man

Excellent article by Adrian. The article illustrates how a climate of fear and the threat of detention and deportation can eviscerate communities. That is the objective of these latter day Brown Shirts

Since SCOTUS has authorized racial/ethnic profiling mere citizenship is no longer a guarantee against improper searches. DWM is now reason enough to be detained at a checkpoint. Time for everyone to display a Mexican flag decal on their vehicle - they can't arrest us all. My Cherokee Nation car tag gives the game away at once and so far they are not coming for me. That could change, and it could be deadly for me. Life today as a dual citizen in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Latinos in Chicago and across America are experiencing the first steps in the establishment of a police state. As the ICEtapo expands we can expect overt oppression to expand as well. Resistance must grow if we are to defeat the fascist attack on our democracy.

Sacramento has cancelled the Mexican Independence Day festival at Capital Mall and instead is having a short ceremony on the steps. No music, food and vendors as in years past. 😢

Oh, Adrian, I’m grateful for your reporting even if liking it seems wrong. We have had a system that won’t allow immigrants into the country legally for economic reasons yet for many years winked at the influx of migrant workers, roofers, and others who kept our economy going while paying into systems they could never access. It’s past time to fix the system, but this is not the way. I have found that I can’t pray for blessings for Stephen Miller and his gang of enforcers (which has worked a number of times in my personal life for people I found cruel or heartless), but I do pray for grace, that one day he realizes the error of his ways and repents. I am heartsick all the time.

Adrian, Thanks for the reporting and extensive work to bring us these stories. Yes, fear is this administrations weapon of choice. That's because real solutions to the problems people face need tireless effort and hard work to solve. These clowns are incompetent and morally bankrupt. What's in it for me is their motto. Hopefully, if we get the chance, people will vote to send them packing.

I read this morning in the Miami Herald that 2/3 of the 1800 men that were in Alligator Alcatraz are missing. Where are they? How often is this happening?

Trumps Storm Troopers operate under a cloud of anonymity.

In a democracy this should not be tolerated.

I would suggest that a Citizens Ledger be formed into which snippets of information be gathered and cross referenced, building up a picture and pointing to the identity of said agents.

Neighbours who disagree with this type of Secret Police could contribute.

When this horror is over, some kind of tribunal will need to be formed to render accountability.

A new Nuremberg perhaps?
