Yeah, that's always been the irony. I recall, as a young teen, learning that my single, working mom paid more taxes than GE did as a corporation. We were poor, by every measure, and the image that we paid while the wealthy did not has always resonated with me. Musk/Bezos/Fuckerberg can pay their share and still be wealthier than the bottom 30% of the country combined.

Somehow “love of country” has become adoration of bottom line—“patriotism” in the 21st Century.
