In Duval Co Florida between addiction treatment improvements and enforcement overdose deaths have dropped from a high of in the 400s per year to the 200s. The community came together along with the hospitals to initiate project save livies that has helped. Gateway community services helps everyone with addiction problems. All of these is threatened.

That has already begun, today was a mass layoff event. Nonprofits do not offer COBRA, severance or payouts of time owed. This is going to hurt so many hard working families not only of those receiving services but those who work in the behavioral heath field.
After every mass shooting Republicans blame “mental health.” This action clearly shows they are “pro-murder,” not pro-life. It shows that the fishermen murders have nothing to do with stopping drugs. Basic supply demand says when you cut off supply to a market with fixed demand—like untreated addiction—prices and profit margins rise, and new suppliers and/or supply chains develop to meet the demand. Drug treatment is the single most important tool in reducing deaths from drug use and narco profits. Narco gangs take US drug profits, buy up assault rifles and military style pistols thanks to our unrestricted sales of weapons that only soldiers need, and take them back across the border to kill or intimidate governments and police. If Trump was serious about a “war” on narco traffickers, fully funding drug treatment and cutting off unrestricted assault rifle and ammo sales would be the first step.
I suspect we can square this circle pretty easily, actually. SAMSHA efforts do not align with the administration's priorities, and mental health treatment to address gun violence doesn't either, because the administration's priorities are to kill us off. Except, of course, any of us who have enough money to be shaken down for donations to the ballroom or Arc de Trump.

I survived the SAMHSA reduction in force that happened on April 1st by joining the SAMHSA funded Prevention Technology Transfer Center in September to continue the good work that I was doing while I was with SAMHSA, only to be fired again today. I can say with all honesty, as much as we didn’t like it, we were aligned with the administration priorities. That statement in their letter is an absolute lie and devastating to all those who do this selfless work for the greater good of our communities.

What are SAMHSA's priorities and how are these grants not aligned with them?
