Interesting paper. I agree with you about the gaining of confidence in the belief, and the affirmation provided by hanging out with the like-minded. But I see a greater trust in authority, it’s just that the authority is, for them, vested in one man (Q and/or Trump, in our current quagmire); they also seem MORE inclined to be politically engaged, like the QAnon people.

The authority they mistrust is the establishment who's screwing them. The authority they trust is a con man.
