Once again, thank you Tim and Sam for bringing some humor into these dark times. Love watching you two crack up at the ridiculousness of the current administration and all of the ass kissing they are doing. So thankful for The Bulwark team to turn to with each new scandal involving the clown show in office!

I hope the Rolls Royce engines include their jet engines. That matters more than car engines since airlines pick the engine manufacturer to mate to the aircraft they are buying. As, if United buys a Boeing aircraft they might use Rolls Royce engines rather than GE. I have no idea which airline uses which jet engine but I would rather they buy Boeing with Rolls Royce than the alternative of an Air Bus aircraft with a Rolls Royce engine.

I noticed that at first Tim and Sam said “Rolls Royce engines.” That is a very different thing from luxury cars. I worked in the aerospace industry for years and to that industry Rolls Royce is a manufacturer of jet engines, a big one. Their main competitors are GE and Pratt & Whitney. I actually would have thought the US jet engine manufacturers would appreciate a tariff on RR engines, but then, a lot of US companies also use them, so it helps keep engine prices competitive I suppose. You can never tell if these guys are just slipping stuff in because Trump isn’t going to get it. Luxury cars he gets, jet engines, not so much I imagine. You would think Nutlick would just be mortified to be talking that way. He has no dignity at all. No problem whatsoever bring a huge kiss ass. What a cringy bunch of stooges.

A couple of takes I would add:

1. Lifting tariffs on Rolls Royce engines is obviously pure cruelty-is-the-point autocratic messaging. "We are here to give perks to the oligarchy. we don't care who knows it, in fact we'll rub your noses in it while the masses suffer. And there's nothing you can do about it."

2. Trump's thinking on the port comment is not even as deep as degrowth or forcing manufacturing back to the US. It's much simpler and stupider than that. In his mind, the US is being ripped off and therefore shouldn't do the deal. Full stop. It's pure ego...the fear of looking weak and being taken advantage of. But even Vegas knows that some business is better than no business and when times are bad you give away your product at a discount rather than have zero cash flow. Trump understands grift, not business.

not to defend him, but RR also makes jet engines I think.

I am certainly not trying to defend the "UK Trade Deal" that his majesty closed 🤣, but the Rolls Royce thing is kind of a misinformation piece. The "carveout" was for the Rolls Royce jet engines used on some Boeing aircraft. That said, I didn't see his "highness" make any denials or corrections when his court joked about "buying a Rolls." That's probably because he is completely unaware of WTF any of it means and probably thinks it was a deal for RR automobiles. Oh, I just looked downline a little here and "Charmaine Berry has a good explanation of the aeronautics basis as well as some discussion on autos in response.
