Great piece on Vive La Resistance. However I must add on landslide race in Ohio. The current mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval, clobbered JD Vance's half brother Cory Bowman with 78% of the vote. And this is in spite of a NIMBY issue in a very tony neighborhood about two miles from the VP's house.

Adrian Carrasquillo's recap of his brief interviews before Mamdani's victory speech is one of the most uplifting and hopeful pieces of work I've seen, read, in quite a while. He nailed the essence of the humanity that's made the US, New York in particular, different. This from a dyed in the wool Chicago guy.

This guy can write too! Brilliance in a nutshell.

Yes, as a Virginian voter, I was walking with a spring in my step all day! I just now got the chance to read this and it brought be back to last night's excitement! I was also excited to see Adrian Carrasquillo writing about Mamdani's win. His review of individual's responses even made me teary-eyed. Woohoo some happier news for a change!

Minority Leader Jeffries rightly expects that any solution for the shutdown will have to come from the Senate, because Speaker Johnson is keeping the House in recess so he doesn't have to allow a vote on releasing the Epstein Files. He has his priorities ... dictated to him, I mean.

It’s time.. now is time to effectively repeal 💯 % Project 2025. This political malignancy that has been since 1973 and continues to this moment be spread by The Heritage Foundation, its cohorts at the Claremont Institute and Notable right-wing ultra-wealthy donor groups include the Rockbridge Network, which includes figures like Peter Thiel and Rebekah Mercer, and conservative dark money groups like the Marble Freedom Trust, which received a large donation from Barre Seid and is led by Leonard Leo. and its creepy, cruel, anti American poisonous propaganda.

We The People are sick with the heavy burden of the disease. 🦠🇺🇸🤮

I want to add to Bill's important comments about the Virginia legislative elections. In 2017 I was a member of a volunteer-led group (Red-to-Blue) in Brooklyn that decided to try and flip seats in legislative races starting in Virginia. We knew how poorly Democrats had been doing in legislative elections, but did not realize just how bad the situation was.We learned that Republicans won many seats because there literally were no Democrats running against them. We, Virginians and similar out-of-state groups helped start the process of turning the State legislature Blue. And more recently the States Project has helped support and fund Democrats running for state offices. The Koch Brothers understood the importance of local elections before the Dems, fortunately we are catching up.

This point cannot be glossed over. I live in SW Ohio, and the situation described is exactly what has been happening in Ohio for decades, as David Pepper illustrated in Laboratories of Autocracy. This election we had wins locally in the exurbs formerly all GOP enclaves.

Disgust, profound levels of disgust. Last night expressed in every way people had to express it. I didn't know there was quite this level of rage and disgust- pent up and just waiting for the first opportunity to be heard. Amazing. And wonderful! People know what has to be done. And will send DJT and his stew balls packing as soon as they have the chance to do so.

I still can’t understand how the Orange Goon still has 40% support in polls. The country’s only hope is that those 40% fail to vote in future elections.

What many of these ass-kissers around Trump do not understand is that the public ass-kissers do not inherit. They have publically compromised themselves and displayed weakness. All they are good for or trusted for after that is more ass-kissing.

There is some power there, but not control. They are the "bottoms" of the political world and will always be "bottoms."

We constantly hear talk that Democrats are out of touch with voters. Today, it sounds to me that it is the Republicans who are out of touch. The economic consequences of Trump/GOP "policies" are at the heart of the massacre they just experinced. Also, people are not happy about the authoritarian direction of the country. Trump is busy building a marble bathroom with gold fixtures as well as his obscene ballroom. Talk about having a tin ear. Dems should start referring to Trump as Msarie Antoinette.

On Mamdani.

First stage of every project: Euphoria

2nd stage: Disenchantment

3rd stage: Search for the guilty

4th stage: Punishment of the innocent

5th stage: Distinction for the uninvolved

Make the euphoria last. But prepare for it to fade. Governing NYC is going to be a challenge.

Yes, it is but it's not like the two previous mayors did a good job. If he can stem the corruption and the belief that the city should cater to the ultra wealthy then he will succeed.

"New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants—and, as of tonight, led by an immigrant.” So it is. And it well bears saying as well that AMERICA is a NATION of immigrants, built by immigrants, and powered by immigrants. Mine came over almost 200 years ago, but I am assuredly still an immigrant. Most of us are. Those who came here, and who continue to come here, brought intrepid souls that inspired--literally, breathed life into--the best American values: hard work, fair play, generosity, gratitude, and grace.

Those American values are unknown to Trumpism. What does that mean? In truth, it means that Trump and his toadies and lickspittles are the REAL alien threat. They represent the apotheosis of excess, entitlement, covetousness, and cowardice.

We need, every day, to stand up and say to our friends and our neighbors and indeed the world: I AM AN IMMIGRANT, and I will fight to my last breath against those who seek to rob us of the great legacy that's been given to all of us by forebears who came here for liberty.

Great morning shots. I am feeling good today for the first time in 9 mos. I am going to linger here and try to dissect anything from Tuesdays outcome. A Compliment to Hannah Yoest on the Composite image! I imagine the wave looking rather like an Eagle covered in "I voted" stickers and buttons was perfect!
