We did it. Now stay and fight.
Yall -
When the call finally came in this morning, after days of big boards and waiting, I went to the window and belted out one extended WOOOOO that echoed through the streets below. It was returned with the yelps and screams and shouts of a people that are relieved and overjoyed to know that the beast has been slain, that our country has been protected.
The defeat of Donald Trump was not preordained. It happened because millions upon millions of Americans (the most ever) spoke out and said, No more. Other nations have succumbed to a man like Trump and seen a slow descent down the path of soft authoritarianism, kleptocracy, cruelty, and hate.
I'm so damn proud that we weren't one of them.
So I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. And tonight we will have a livestream for Bulwark+ members who want to celebrate. I hope you will join me in that joy.
But someday soon we must all realize that this fight is far from over. Trump is not going to retire to a quiet life of painting. We elected multiple QAnon crazies to Congress. The illiberal forces in our politics writ large remain on the rise.
The Bulwark will be a home for political commentary and analysis that doesn't bend to these forces. I have made a choice to change my life trajectory and be a part of that.
I hope you will join us and support us in this effort as well. At this point you know what you will get. You know we won't pull punches. Would be honored to have you along for the ride.
Thanks again for everything. Donald Trump has been fired. God Bless America.
