Poetic justice: A judge once purged by Viktor Orbán will be the new head of state as the country works to dismantle the authoritarian system Orbán left behind.
I wish that I could like this essay by Professor Baer more than once. The description of Hungary's attempt to unwind the damage of Orban's rule will be instructive as we hopefully attempt the same post-Trump. Will we elect a Magyar willing to push to, but not over, the constitutional boundaries to sideline our nation's fascist impulses? Will Neibuhr's children of the light be able to overcome the children of this world that will fight to retain the status quo?
Thank you for this superb essay and update for those of us not following events in Hungary daily. It warns us that, even with a super majority in 2029 or whenever, recovering our democracy here will not be easy or quick.

How dark does JD’s soul have to be to go campaign for orban? Personally I think he has near zero chance in 2028.
