People seem to have forgotten that Biden already, quite publicly, cornered Republicans into taking cuts to Social Security and Medicare off the table. In so doing, he very considerably reduced the field of play for their subsequent hostage-taking.
Whatever they agree to now, McCarthy knows he can’t get passed without some Dems’ support. He also knows that’s the only way he’ll survive a vote on a motion to vacate the chair.
