I'm going to go out on a big, wobbly limb here and speculate that the gang members who have embraced DJT and his candidacy don't actually give a defecation about him and his agenda -- or lack thereof -- so much as they see the prospect of him either a) offering them pardons for any federal crimes committed if he were to return to the presidency, b) enabling them to get into the good graces of MAGA with an acceptance of and public shoutout for their endorsement, or c) both.

True that the contrast with DJT's supposed law-and-order stance is glaring. But he crossed the bridge of contradiction on that count long ago, and has done so many times since then. Instead the concern is that the person who seeks to be the leader of our nation, and by extension the free world, cannot see how blatantly he is being played by a group of thugs for their own personal gain. If he is dumb enough, and/or is desperate enough for approval, to make that sort of deal with the devil with gang members, what does that tell everyone about his ability to figure out what Putin, Xi, and others want when they come calling with their own flattery and much more dangerous agendas for our nation and the world?

It's insulting to assume that because these friendly criminals are black they will naturally encourage law abiding Black voters to also support Trump. All that this says to me is that Trump, as a criminal, gets support from other criminals regardless of their race or ethnicity.

Yes, the "birds of a feather" thing. DJT is altogether transactional in his alliances -- he is with you as long as there is something in it for him and he can walk away from them when they no longer suit his purposes. If only life were that simple for the rest of us. Somehow he makes it work for himself. He makes "Teflon Ron" Reagan look like an amateur at the accountability game in comparison.

I agree. It's so cynical.

Are you expecting Trump to care what others want? He will give what he can to anyone who flatters him and take away what he can from anyone who does not flatter, even if they are the same person, American be damned. And remember being tough is the same as beating people up and/or killing them. Not taking advantage of people is being a pussy.

Willing to bet he knew only one thing about them - they support him. Ergo, they're the finest people.

Willing to bet he knew only one thing about them - they're Black.

And he WANTS that Black vote. . .

That is the only requirement.

Yes, as the ultimate narcissist, he cannot think beyond what works for him personally and brings him tangible benefits in his superficial transactional relationships. He sees them as a sort of business deal, whereas the rest of us understand that there are consequences that impact so many more people than just the self. Bullies never think about being bullies so much as getting what they want at someone else's expense.

True. And he will always have a place to run to if things go poorly for him.

World leaders who want to see America in a leading position, don't want Trump - who isn't a real leader. Those who want someone who can be easily manipulated, however prefer another Trump presidency. It was quite clear in his first term that anyone willing to pay up (sometimes just with flattery) had Trump's number.

That's the point. It's the bad actors whom we need to fear, not the good ones, if DJT returns to the presidency, for he cannot see what the rest of us see, that these people who flatter him have neither his nor our best interests at heart.

He thinks he's in charge. He's the King's Fool, and thinks he's the King.
