The worst part of this? The Nazi posters are light years better as works of art. They can't even get their ethno nationalist propaganda posters some with a high degree of quality.
One similarity between the German posters and our current posters is the color Hannah notes as “piss-yellow.” I’m no expert but my understanding is that the German posters were printed on card stock that had a yellow hue. The current Trump administration posters are tinged with yellow. My guess is that the yellow echo is intentional.
I really liked Hannah's style and would love to read more from her. Her subject expertise too. I'm always impressed by the width of, like, specific expertise the Bulwark has. Relatedly, Forward.com had an interesting comparison back in August of DHS tweets and specific American far right anti-Semitism from like the 70s and 80s. (https://forward.com/fast-forward/762568/homeland-security-accused-of-tweeting-antisemitic-dog-whistles/) Actual Nazi parallels is hardly a jump.
Also, on this idea we need those jobs for Real Americans (TM)... The American economy's always depended on work being done for less than we'd consider a living wage. That includes slavery of Africans and indigenous people, Jim Crow-era sharecropping, recent immigrants forced into dangerous factory jobs in the 19th century, and more recently just outsourcing work around the world. If we want more American-bought products produced by American-worked jobs, that's a choice open to us, but that's really hard to square with good wages and low/no inflation. I just don't see how the math's possible. And speaking as someone who grew up in the Carolinas, my parents' generation were thrilled to see the textile mills die off and be replaced by other more high-skilled, high-paying industries. Lots of that's now being undercut in a big way by tariffs and just the general lack of stability, by the way. I'd say Sec. Chavez really needs to think again, if I thought thought entered into it in the first place.
But I digress. The imagery's really something, and it's not the first time the Trump admin's hit that particular chord. Would that I could say I'm surprised... :-$
When my father came to this country as a refugee 103 years ago, it was not for the America of these posters. As an American, I'm appalled, ashamed and angered. As an old Jew, I'm terrified. Thank you, Ms. Yoest. I subscribed today. Please continue. Resistance, truth & memory are the ultimate superpowers.
I appreciate the fact that Trump has finally exposed DOJ and DHS as faithful arms of Republican Authoritarian Fascism, and removed any doubt or question that they, along with the agencies they control, need to be shoveled into the dumpster of history and left to smolder with the ashes of Trump himself. America has tried to pretend that these agencies who have only rarely been led by anyone left of Himmler actually served a purpose beyond advancing the Republican cause, but the blinders are now off as they literally march in goosestep behind thier Furher with but the gentlest of housecleaning of anyone with a pretense of ethical behavior.
The side-by-side of the DOL's posters with the Reich's made me so very sad. I have to laugh, though: While Amazon, UPS and other workforce-heavy corporations are doing massive layoffs to make way for AI, the Labor Department tries to recruit young men into ICE--if they can pass the down-graded physical. Those who would apply for the job are hardly Übermenschen. They've been too busy writing the code that kills their job prospects and selling it to the highest bidder. It's so funny it hurts inside.
Trump accused the Biden administration of politicizing the DOJ for pursuing legitimate crimes with unimpeachable proof. The prosecutions were slow walked with the aid of a Trump appointed judge, or at least one of them was. Now the GOP is using the DOJ to bring charges that are not validated by evidence, firing judges with integrity who know the charges are false and hiring his own unqualified lawyers to follow through with Trump’s promise of retribution. I watched clips of Pam Bondi’s testimony in Congress. She never answered questions or lied. She was combative rather than cooperative and then praised by Trump for her great performance. I think every one of Trump’s personal lawyers has been named to some position in the justice department, including the top 2. I also watched clips of Mike Johnson’s press conferences where he lied and misrepresented the shutdown. If it’s not resolved soon by giving some of the Democratic Party’s positions on healthcare and food programs, just as many or more Republican voters will be harmed in the process. They just want to use their hold on Congress, the Presidency, and the Supreme Court to further enrich the rich. They’re using the same tactics as the Republicans used in 1890 and 1920 to give businesses the upper hand, large businesses or corporations that donate. Too bad small business. It gets worse every day. ICE and border agents are assaulting peaceful protestors with tear gas, rubber bullets, and pepper spray. The agents were ordered to have body cameras, but who checks to see if they are turned on. How can the American people not see? AI could be a great tool, but it’s being used by some of the wrong people for the wrong purposes. In addition to that, it’s using tremendous amounts of electric power and running up home electricity bills. A lot of this could be handled by the green energy projects Trump has eviscerated. Staying informed is killing me.
The regime doesn’t need new laws to normalize fascism; it just needs new aesthetics and new silences.
Heroic Realism in the Department of Labor’s feed and heresy trials inside the DOJ are not separate stories; they’re the same choreography. One builds the myth, the other enforces it. You dress propaganda in “AI patriotism,” scrub the record of what really happened on January 6, and then call it governance. The goal isn’t persuasion; it’s habituation. Make the public stop noticing what truth looks like.
Every autocracy starts with two lies: We are the real victims, and we are the only patriots. Both now have official art and legal precedent.
This is what epistemic warfare looks like once it graduates from social media, when the algorithm starts wearing a federal seal.
In the Taranto case, I hope the USDJ denies the DOJ motion to file a superseding sentencing memorandum. If so, the official record would include reference to Taranto's participation in the J6 uprising.
It's also very like "Soviet Realism" in the 1930s and 1940s.

Those posters are part of Trump 's
"MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN" project.

What is with the Eagle on the ballroom drawings in this post? Is this accurate? If so how did we notsee this one? https://substack.com/@thebrutaltruthpodcast/note/c-171689356?r=5a5n7z&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

It used to be, about ten years ago, that the Republican party had devolved into a cross between the Know Nothings and the Monster Raving Loony party.
That's no longer the case. It has now morphed into the Christian Aryan Nationalist Socialist party.

These Labor Department images remind me more of Soviet-style propaganda. The Nazi kids in the Nazi posters are downright scrawny and anemic-looking.

Yhe command prompt for the posters was "Just like Hitler Youth propaganda, only different".
I know this is a little nerdy, but I am super curious which AI slop machine they used and more importantly what the prompts were.
