Haha I’m mostly just pushing your buttons at this point. I do think overseas audiences are somewhat more hesitant to accept black stars (it’s why Denzel was never as big overseas as he is here; Will Smith is the only one to really break that barrier in a consistent way) but I also think there are multiple reasons why THE LITTLE MERMAID didn’t take off overseas in a way that BEAUTY/BEAST, ALADDIN, or LION KING did. Mostly I wanted to highlight that for all the talk of American audiences not embracing the race-swapping the real problem for Disney with this movie is overseas, not domestic. It’s going to do fine in the US, on par with ALADDIN. If it loses money it’s going to lose money because it’s bombing in Asia and soft in Europe.
