I supported Gary Johnson in 2016, pretty vehemently really, and everything Andy Craig said is 100% accurate. I don’t need to tell you my observations, because I would just rehash everything Andy said. I loved the idea of Classical Liberalism, and I still do, but I discovered that many of my compatriots abandoned all of those rugged individualism tropes once rural white people started to experience the despair of rugged individualism (that many black people felt decades prior). If you’re Progressive don’t waste your time telling me how individualism doesn’t work and we need a more robust social safety net, etc. You may be right, but another thing I discovered is that many of the people who touted individualism are the ones who really need a safety net. I don’t. I grew up in the rural South, I left, got educated and made pretty good decisions. My life is going pretty well, and it could have gone well for the others I grew up with. However, that would require them to abandon the devil they know, and that is impossible for a lot of people. I’m not a religious person, and quite frankly I don’t really care about people who have thrown their lives away. That was their decision. I especially don’t care when their new identity revolves completely around grievance. I’m a flawed individual I guess, but I’ve made a tenuous alliance with Progressives. That’s just where we are.

I just started watching The Anarchists on HBO, but I can already tell exactly where it’s going. People are frustrated with their existence - they need a new identity- they need someone to blame and they need like-minded people to reinforce their new identity - feedback loop. Typical sources of blame : central banks, immigrants, Monsanto, Satan, Nancy Pelosi, etc. There’s never a cult of “blame your damn self”. The folks who want to tear down the hierarchy inevitably end up in a much smaller, more-draconian hierarchy. I’ve only seen one episode, so don’t spoil it, but I bet the Acapulco Anarchist end up in desperate need of some of those central bank notes known as US dollars. Oh, and I’m guessing there’s a massive fight for power and Dear Leader comes up with a reason to sleep with wives and age-appropriate daughters. I haven’t seen a dogmatic organization yet where Dear Leader didn’t end up banging wives and daughters.

The problem with Libertarianism is libertarians. They always seemed highly susceptible to crackpottery. Though I have some libertarian ideas, I don't hang with libertarians. Just a sixth sense that 'the Jews' will come out at any moment.
