Susan looks very concerned in that photo.

Narrator: She will vote ‘aye.’

Why he chose to ask her any question seems an exercise in futility. She is the political poster child for prevarication. Frankly, I find her as disturbing as some of the more virulent MAGA politicians, she just says what she thinks her chosen audience wants to hear. I’m surprised she can even sit upright, given her complete lack of backbone.

And THIS time, Trump will have really "learned his lesson". She is nothing if not predictable.

Jerry Fletcher's avatar

That’s the problem. Trump did learn his lesson. He can do whatever he wants and she won’t do shit. I’m not sure if that is the lesson she intended to teach him, but he definitely learned it.

Trump wasn't preparing for a preemptive strike? 2 aircraft carrier groups, forward strike aircraft deployments. Give a kid a loaded gun and watch the results.

Jerry Fletcher's avatar

It was a preemptive defensive strike. Like when you cold cock a bully before he asks you for anything. And then suddenly, for some reason, everyone thinks you’re the bully. It was purely a defensive cold cock.

Are elevators on the Hill like the Room of Requirement? They seem to materialize precisely and exclusively when cowardly Senators need them. Looking at you, Susan 🙄

What would our 'esteemed' Congresspeople do if those elevator doors never opened?

Would they flee, or would they stand there like deer in headlights?

citizen spot's avatar

They would stand there staring at the un-opening doors while pretending to take a very important call on their phone that is not actually turned on.

If only they could escape to Narnia through the magical wardrobe, where MAGA Aslan lives.

Senators are confused about whether to call this a “war.” CONFUSED? and with Israel??? WTF

If they dont know, then they should not be Senators. Didn't they READ the constitution??? Take the oath of office? The executive branch DOES NOT have the power to declare war. The entire cabinet calls it a war, Hegseth changed the name of his job to Department of WAR which tells the world what our point of view is. Why do they think we called it DEP'T of DEFENSE???

Humpty Trumpty: Words mean what I pay them to mean, nothing more and nothing less.

Humpty Dumpty said it in Through the Looking Glass. Humpty Trumpty says it looking in the mirror.

Diana E's avatar

No, they just carry a pocket Constitution to wave around. They don’t bother to read it.

Rubio has already reversed himself on the Israel story. Trump concurred. Johnson will follow. Pretty clear why R senators prefer to say nothing. But now that they have dropped the absurd "defense because our friend is on offense" claim, we'll have a war powers vote with one less excuse to hide behind.

It sort of seems to me like Bibi told Trump to help overthrow the Mullahs using the Gaza game plan and Trump said sure. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems Israel is leading on this and that really worries me. If it was just Trump he'd probably declare victory in a week. Israel will want to continue bombing for as long as possible. I'm not sad Khomeni is dead, but I don't want us to totally destroy all the infrastructure regular people in Iran need.

We can all remember when Japan pre-emptively defended itself against the US Pacific fleet. And how FDR famously declared "December 7, 1941, a day that would live in infamy except that this wasn't offensive, it was defensive, so it's not war"

I wish I could like this more than once.

War or no war - what this rogue and corrupt administration and this was illegal by our standards and illegal by international law. But the corrupt GOP needs to keep their mafia going to cash in in their investments in Palantir, CoreCivic, Geo Group and BlackRock and Vanguard funds - all part of the agreement to hide Epstein pedophiles and to honor the bilateral protection agreement with SCOTUS. The 140 Insurrectionists will not be prosecuted because SCOTUS will stop it and Congress will protect Thomas and Alito even though they admit to bribes. All these people took an oath to preserve and protect the constitution but they think they all have a better idea - personal wealth.

>>> "Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, expressed a great deal of confidence despite the paucity of information made public. 'We did not declare—the president did not declare war,' Hagerty told me."

Hrm, so, wait, is declaring war an article 2 power now? I could have sworn the founders reserved the ability to declare war to Congress. The Founders gave war powers to Congress to prevent a single person from having the unchecked authority to initiate war. We do not have a monarchy. A president who arbitrarily or capriciously sends our sons and daughters to war is a risk to liberty

We need to rescind these authorities. All of them, not just war on terror era stuff, go back to 1973. Especially with the Supreme Court giving the President immunity.

The Founders existed when Congress had a heart and a soul.

When asked if she liked sex, Susie Collins demurred, she couldn’t possibly say as she hadn’t committed the act (shudder). Sex-like or sex adjacent maybe, but you asked about actual sex so she would have to get back to you at a later date when she might have the requisite knowledge to comment. In the meantime rest assured she is pondering your request quite seriously.

Our troops have been killed. For what? Civilians have been killed. For what? "Maybe" boots will be on the ground in the near future. For what? How many Americans and civilians are we willing to watch die for what we do not know? I would suggest that American families start thinking about which of their family members may be sent to fill those boots on the ground.
