I loved the final season of Hacks. The last 3 episodes had me in tears at times. Fond farewell to such beloved characters.
Thank you for reminding me about Widow's Bay. Matthew Rhys is always most excellent in everything he's in! I looked forward to this 'comedy horror' series with enthusiasm.
As far as this attention span deficit that people are doing to themselves with multiple screens at a time. I can't imagine that this will have a positive impact on their cognitive abilities as they age.
I'm thoroughly enjoying Widow's Bay. I'm also re-watching The West Wing on Netflix. With everything going on in our government today, I needed a reminder of how an administration should function.
We just started watching this week. To me all these things take a couple of episodes to ‘launch’ but we are liking the setup and how it’s shaping up. Did not read the whole thing for fear of spoilers but glad it is recommended.
Widow’s Bay is currently my favorite show. The stereotyped New England characters and Matthew Rhys’s reactions to all of the supernatural goings on is hysterical. A must watch!
I loved CE3K. For me Disclosure Day took a long time to setup, but once it did the setup I really got into it.
In my opinion the women carries this movie. I loved Emily Blunt's role as Margaret and also Eve Hewson's role as Jane. Finally the sleeper role for me was Elizabeth Marvel as Sister Jane.
Disclosure Day was not CE3K, nor was it ET. But it was a very good movie that my wife and I both enjoyed.
I watched the first two episodes of Widow's Bay. Although I am a fan of Matthew Rhys, it was too cutesy for me. I don't like comedy/horror shows. I love psychological suspense/horror but don't most "horror" genre. Rhys was in a recent series where he played a psychopath and I liked him in that. Yes, he was a neighbor in it. I think British series. I will probably watch the rest of Widow's Bay because I'm ill and need to rest, and enjoyed the cast. Another commentor mentioned The Boroughs, to which I had the same reaction. I'm not making a judgment on the quality of either series. It's a matter of personal taste.
I am enjoying Margo's Got Money Problems, but I keep re-naming it every time I tell someone about it- most often Margo Needs a Job. The cast is fantastic.
I love this show so much. It’s a real treat for people who equally enjoy horror and comedy. We need more of this. All of the actors are fantastic, and Matthew Rhys is a treasure. The only complaint I have is having to wait a full week for another episode. I wish AppleTV would drop several episodes at once so I can binge!
There are a lot of very high quality shows on Apple like Silo, For All Mankind, Friends and Neighbors, etc. I have Apple streaming because I have the Apple package with Apple Music, Apple News, Cloud Storage and the streaming is included. I didn’t expect much from the streaming but it’s been high quality. I will watch Widow’s Bay when I get through some other series.
I absolutely love this show. What a fabulous cast! I was not that familiar with Matthew Rhys’ work before. He seemed to specialize in dour roles. But now I adore him. He is a great comic actor! And how nice it is to see actors like Stephen Root, Jeff Hiller and Dale Dickey. The actor playing Patricia (name is escaping me) especially shines. Thanks for writing about it.
If somebody told me "Close Encounters" was their favorite Spielberg I'd say that sounds like a totally reasonable opinion, even if I lean more towards "ET" and "Schindler's List."
I'll put Widow's Bay on my mental TV queue. (This is a very short cue, because I typically don't like how much time it takes to watch a whole TV season.)
Widow’s Bay (fantastic) and Deadloch Season 2 right now (great madcap murder mystery…add subtitles if you have a problem processing accents…it doesn’t detract) Next up is Margot’s Got Money Troubles after listening to one of the latest Scriptnotes episodes). Also check out Scripnotes podcast in between the Bulwark content!
I will watch anything with Matthew Rhys in it so, I've been watching Widow's Bay and enjoying it even though I rarely watch "horror" movies. I don't consider this an horror show and I love the facial expressions of Rhys as each episode evolves. I also loved how the character of Patricia held her shotgun on the body of the Boogeyman as it was moved around.

I LOVE this show! Just the right amount of scary and funny and highly recommend it!

I started Widow's Bay after your recommendation. I am a fan of Matthew Rhys, and I think the show deserves a pickup. Thanks for trying.

I did exactly the same thing! There is another season coming. I hate the wait. Loved the series!

Anything with Stephen Root is reason enough to watch. The actor's supporting actor, underappreciated and unheralded across a very long career.

If you haven’t watched THE AMERICANS you should! Great show, one of my favorites of the 2010s.
I was just about to write the same reply, Sonny.

What about Raiders of the Lost Ark? WHAT ABOUT RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK??
That's a fun one! But my favorite Spielberg is Spielberg with a little more pathos and/or horror.
