Religious people (many of them at least) have a persecution complex. They need to feel persecution in some form to feel as though they are 'fighting'. It gives their lives purpose. If every single abortion in the USA was stopped tomorrow, and it was completely outlawed federally. The 'pRo-lIfE' movement would continue as they'd invent a new persecution. It has been this way for hundreds (thousands?) Of years.. It's remarkably obvious to see this when you weren't born into a religious tradition but seemingly difficult if you were.
