Slitting throats? Of people just going about the business of doing their jobs? DeSantis is not only a dick he's also seriously, seriously, seriously disturbed.

It's just... NOT a normal figure of speech. I'm not one of those who thinks we need to ban all idioms involving violence. You can talk about "killing two birds with one stone." You can talk about "knocking your opponent out of the ring." When someone has been well and truly owned, you may say: "I'd like to report a murder."

But... slitting throats? Who says that? Who thinks that? What kind of weirdo are you if THOSE are the words that coming to mind over... trimming federal payrolls?

Great point. There are many ways of stating a metaphor about cutting the size of the bureaucracy but slitting throats has to be one of the most bizarre. And sick.

"Slitting throats?"

Compare to what happens if you put the words "2nd Amendment Solution" in the same sentence with the name of the current POTUS.

"Mr. DeSantis, the American public has found your campaign of negativity off-putting and divisive for no good reason. How would you like to respond?"

"We are going to start slitting throats on Day 1."

Perfect, no notes.

Also, I'm getting tired of all these calls to violence and I'm going to offer a solution to Mr. DeSantis today. He keeps talking, talking, talking about violence, but nobody's going to believe him unless he's personally violent. So I'm going to volunteer myself. I'm a middle aged woman in NY state with a college degree who reads books and volunteers at my local library. I also have 2 cats. DeSantis can slit my throat on live TV while I say, "I believe in that all people are endowed with inalienable rights." Think he'll go for it?

Please don't do this. I don't think I could stand the constant refrain of, "She was asking for it."

HeтАЩs playing to one group and one group only - the January 6th was a great day crowd. DeSantis is the heir to the nastiest of the MAGA crowd.

He would love to be the heir, but have they really accepted him to their bosoms? (lol thinking of Giuliani here). He's definitely playing to the MAGAs, but a lot of them cast their first-ever vote for Trump. I think they will go back into the woodwork once Trump is no longer a candidate, but that might just be me wish-casting.

I was thinking that we all often say something with casual violence (To the moon, Alice, to the moon), but the GOP is really beginning to accept a more formal violence, if DeSantis can use that phrasing. It's not exasperation, it's signaling.

He's no Ralph Kramden, that's for sure.

Yeah but the reason "To the moon, Alice! To the moon!" was so funny was because Ralph was quelled with a look from Alice.

Like my grandmother, she had him on his toes.

DeSantis is smart and well-educated. He's also vile. Stereotypes about rednecks seem out of place here. Every Trump voter I know has a good job and lives in an actual house.
