Humanity is being taken away on two fronts. First, most importantly, these people who’ve been stripped of due process. I disagree that anyone, even a terrorist, “deserves” this…which gets me to the second front. The oppressors, those first hand at the prison, who actually have their hands in the act of dehumanizing, and the “secondary” oppressors, the ones in our government whose hands are not actively involved in the imprisonment of these men, but those who have put the actions into play, or those who have silently acquiesced….those people are stripping themselves, willingly or unconsciously, of their own humanity. When you strip one human of their humanity—rightly or wrongly, a little of yours goes with it.
