Watching those couples -- the Walzes (Gwen shaking her head over Tim's ratty ol' plaid shirts), the Bidens, the Obamas, Emhoff and Harris -- and all their families, it struck me how really sad and tawdry and pathetic the Trumps are.

Well said, Carolyn!

The Trumps are "Succession" and "Dallas" wrapped up in one family.

Dave...need to add the Munsters to that duo.

Add the Addams family

No, no -- the Munsters were, in their way, really charming. And a devoted family.

Excellent point, Carolyn and the same was true of the Addams Family.

Perhaps better would be the The Reynolds in тАФ 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'.

For those who have not imbibed the show:

The series follows a group of misfit, narcissistic sociopaths, referred to as "The Gang", who run a meager, unsuccessful Irish bar called Paddy's Pub in the neighborhood of South Philadelphia.

The Gang originally consisted of janitor Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day), bouncer Mac (Rob McElhanney), and bartender Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton), the three of whom own Paddy's Pub, in addition to Dennis' twin sister, Dee Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson), a struggling actress who works as a waitress there.

They are joined by Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito), an eccentric millionaire and the neglectful father of the Reynolds twins.

I've thought this since 2016 but it's patently clear now that the Trumps believe they're living in a popular reality show. Big egos all, hiding even bigger inferiority complexes. Chips off the old Block.

Very much like the cheap production TV reality shows, like "Jersey Shore," featuring the most vile, ignorant, clueless people who, unfortunately, had more than 15 minutes of fame.

I still remember at the 2016 convention the Trump kids trying to humanize Trump with talk about visiting him at his business or, from Tiffany, how she knew her dad loved her by sending her a birthday card. No Cole Emhoff-style video from these guys.

I know. It hurts my heart. Contrast that with Ashley Biden's sweet story of her dad coming to her "birthday party" in the train station.

I knew that I was never going to vote for Trump, but when I saw that, to me it made him pathetic. He is simply incapable of doing the things that Emhoff and Biden did for their kids. How horrible to know and live with that kind of a man/father.

If my memory is getting it right, I remember reading that Ivana actually raised the first 3, with Donnie rarely getting involved with them until they were old enough to be useful to him. Tiffany didn't grow up with him, and Melania has been visibly shielding Barron from his father.

I wonder what sort of person Barron is going to be. He's grown up during the impeachment and coup phase of his father's life.

I wonder how much Melania and the school were shielding. Once he hit high school, I can't imagine he didn't know what was going on. BTW, the Orange Snake says he's going to college in NY. Any bets that Melania will be staying in NY and not Mar-a-Lago?

You are correct. I do recall some reporting, maybe watching, Trump say that he does not get involved with raising the kids. He just supplies the funds. Quite honestly, the best thing he could have done, other than not fathering children at all.

And since then, Don Jr and Eric have been trying to get Daddy's love and attention that they didn't get when they were kids.

Most kids figure it out and want nothing to do with fathers like that. But I guess the money is an incentive.

I would love it if, at every Trump rally, someone would shout at The Donald, "WHERE IS YOUR WIFE?"

Glen, why not give her more dignity than OCF does and use her name? He loves to parade his two sons (gee, it just now occurred to me (NOT) that Ivanka has not been doing anything to support Dad) because he is a male chauvie, and because the women who are connected to him by blood or marriage apparently do not want to be seen with him.

No, because Ivanka and Slender Man got their two billion from the Saudis and don't need to be sucked up into family's immorality and create their own version without the stupidity.

I like the idea, but think your verb is wrong, since they were inside the maelstrom of the "family's immorality" the last time and for years before that, so maybe "pulled back into" is more accurate than "sucked up into" with its inference that they had never been there before.
