Yes, there are a few old but still effective Democrats. Here's the thing: they're not in danger from this. They can fall back on their records, the bills they've pushed through, the decisions they've made, the things they've fought for, and they'll win anyway.
The ones in danger from this are the rest. The old, senile…

The ones in danger from this are the rest. The old, senile, complacent bulwarks of a status quo that's catastrophically failed. The ones who hold their seats not by the strength of their records, but by the value of their campaign funds and sheer organizational inertia. The ones who still believe that they can compromise and negotiate with the Republicans, as if the American right were a normal political party rather than a pack of rabid dogs mauling America's hamstrings so they can bring it down and feast on its carcass at their leisure.
Those are the ones Hogg's project endangers, and it's about damn time.
Pelosi came to office with only modest personal finances and today is worth approximately $230 some million. Recently she made $250 large overnight, on trade information you or I had no access to.. When you bring up insider trading in DC elected officials think first of Pelosi. This is a major reason why she should go. When people talk about how effective she has been they should reflect on things she has done--trivializing Bernie, especially AOC, and others who sound like how Democrats should sound. Pelosi kept the party under control--a party in a which sparse to nothing was done to stop the MAGA coup while getting rich. Easy enough to investigate all encrusted. rich and impossibly ineffective elected Democrats and their connections to insider trading. I would personally see real justice done by having Pelosi serve time. That is how real justice in a court of law is done, making an example of the worst offender.
"While her salary is $223,500 annually, most of her wealth stems from her husband’s business and their shared investments. His firm, Financial Leasing Services, has a track record of wise investments in companies such as Facebook, Apple and Disney." They also own a lot of real estate in the Bay Area.
Nancy also makes a lot of money in speaking fees, which happens when you become world famous. I remember this was a very sore point about HRC during 2016. it was a scandal on the left about how much she got paid for speeches and which audiences she addressed.
There is nothing wrong with having money—though too many on the left think that there is. Isn't that supposed to be part of the American Dream? What is wrong is when you do not pay your fair share of taxes and give back in the form of donations and philanthropy, or when you are so out of touch you say things like "people who complain they didn't get their SS check are the fraudsters."
Last I saw, Nancy supported strengthening the social safety net, protecting the most vulnerable and raising taxes on the wealthiest. She doesn't put down poor, working, and middle class people. She supports them and supports the things Dems have always championed.
She's not perfect, no one is. Though I know how much fun it is to run a circular firing squad. A Dem specialty, and many of the former GOP here (who in their hearts will always be GOP), are more than happy to provide the guns and ammo.
It would serve the interests of both the party and the country if Pelosi, Schakowsky, and the rest of the aging veterans retired on their own initiative and used their money and experience to mentor and promote their replacements. I remember Strom Thurmond and a couple of other Senators doddering down the aisle to cast votes as they were told by their staffs and that is at least part of the reason for Congress' loss of respect. Full disclosure, I'm 74, all the parts still work, and I'm too old to be an active, effective advocate for voters who expect full-time representation.
Not compromising with the dog itself, but you might have to give up something to get thw dog's voters. You can't change ANYTHING unless you win elections by very comfortable margins.
I'm not sure about that. Specifically, I think the Dems would be better served by trying to motivate more of their own supporters to actually turn out and vote, than by trying to sway Republicans who have made it clear they'd rather burn the nation to the ground than compromise.
What? As you certainly know, Mac Smith, Republicans run amok & claim invisible "mandates" even when they take office as second place voter choices. MAGA has to be exposed, shamed, and a stake driven through its heart (then decapitated). Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, James Clymer, Richard Neal, Gerry Connolly & the rest of the Congressional Poligrips are clearly not gonna lead this crusade.
I agree with what you wrote, I'm just saying, speaking from experience, that it will be hard for Democrates to win if they let themselves get nailed down on some of their pet issues like identity politics, whoever will be their leader come next election cycle.
Let's all hope MAGA/Republicans discredit and disgrace themselves enough this time so squabbling around fringe issues will not be a problem next time.
This is badly needed.

Nancy Pelosi made some major strategic mistakes, including blocking a bill to stop insider stock trading. She shouldn’t be immune.
Agreed. Neither should Schumer.

You have to compromise to get things done, neither party should have a monopoly, you need people from all sides to win...
You don't compromise with a rabid dog. You put it down.
