Despair is a close relative of mourning and acceptance. A necessary step to moving on to the possible. The battle (which has felt like a war) is lost for now. But evil is in the driver's seat and the only thing possible is making ourselves physically and mentally strong for what comes. That way we may be ready to grab opportunities when they present themselves. But there are no obvious routes to reversing our backwards slide for the time being.
