The notion that it’s a totally respectable position to prioritize one’s own mildly annoyance, or even not insignificantly economically hardship, over the possible washing away of all the gains made in the post-war era -killing the world’s oldest existing democracy, potentially leaving tens of millions in Eastern Europe at the fate of Christian nationalist tyrants andinvaders, abandoning the goal of standing with freedom-loving peoples all over the world (Ukraine, Taiwan, Iran to name a few) - is something every citizen of good will should view with nothing short of revulsion and distain.
Everyone in the coalition of the decent should remember that such selfish actions taken by our fellow Americans are worthy only of open mockery and contempt.
I assume you're not exactly serious about the street-corner doomsaying. Otherwise, wouldn't that be quite the irony - the crazies that used to spew apocalyptic religious drivel on the street are now the principle voice of one of our two major political parties, while the sane people who once guarded the gates are reduced to standing on the corner yelling "The End (of Democracy) is Nigh!" 😏
Absolutely, correct. I'd rather be poor and live in a country where people are free than have a lot of stuff and Mussolini as Presidenté for life. Although generally the fascist don't have a good economic track record
This is a great point! I’m curious if any of the inflation/gas voters have spent a millisecond considering how affordable/available quality services are in failing/failed/fascist states.
They probably don't think about it. Anymore, fairly intelligent people don't realize that pricing is based on costs. And the US economy is not a planned economy. It is a free market economy so the President can ask oil companies to lower gas prices, but they can and do say no. He can ask congress to lower taxes on gas, but the gas companies would not necessarily reduce the price. They would just benefit from the increased revenue. I can't think of one thing the Republican controlled government could do to lower prices. If you can, I'd like to hear it.
