My wife and I used to watch one of those foodie shows where contestants are supplied with identical ingredients to choose from and challenged to come up with the best meal. One episode had a young woman who hailed from Pickens, OK, an almost wide spot in the road in the Kiamichi Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. Both my parents were from Battiest, a slightly wider spot about 5 miles away. This girl won the round because of a cake that she made and in which one of the ingredients was bacon. When asked by the judges what in the world made her use bacon in a cake, she replied, "Everything is better with a little pig."
