I think the concept of "healthcare" cannot be shouted from the rooftops .

From Overtime:

"The Judicial Conference of the United States, which makes policy for the federal courts, finally struck a blow against this cynical gamesmanship on Tuesday, announcing a new rule to restore the random assignment of cases and close the loophole that lets plaintiffs hand-pick their judges."

To be filed under closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. Kcysmarck(sic) alone has already caused immense harm to the country that will take years to undo. Mitch McConnell did this to the country with the help of t***p. End it now so just maybe if we can keep our democracy we have a chance of once again seeing the rule of law prevail.

Great catch on the Trump machine not commenting on Harris's visit. The thought of her visiting Planned Parenthood locations, speaking about reproductive rights over the next 6 months and the Trump squad squirming because they can't say anything....well, that makes me smile with delight!

I can't imagine this will make much difference, Pence is pretty much roundly disliked. By the anti-t**mpers because he wouldn't control t***p when he was VP, and by the Cult because he wouldn't break the law to keep t***p in office.

Depends on whether he goes further like Liz did.

A never Trumper or a fan of Nickki Haley can indeed defeat Trump in the battleground states. At the same time, Jill Stein, Cornel West and Robert Kennedy can ruin the Biden attempts. Kennedy is hardly from the left. More like a different off ramp in Crazy town. Stein and West should hang their heads in shame. Do away with the electoral college now.

I read this morning in the car and just got back to my computer. This phrase appears in the story about Kamala Harris.

"the unsavory practice itself"

The more I thought about it the madder I got. You are speaking about healthcare, would you say the same thing about an amputation or a mastectomy. The President said reproductive rights because it is these rights and women's rights in general that are under assault across the country by republicans. You don't want an abortion don't have one but keep your hands, and your laws the hell off my body and the body of every other woman.

Exactly. It's not about abortion at all. Abortion is just one of several medical procedures specifically for women only. Men should not have a say. Or for that matter anyone. A female can choose to be celebrate, or choose to use birth control. She can choose to get pregnant and have a baby. She can also choose to not have a baby if she gets pregnant because she didn't use birth control, birth control failed, or she was raped and got pregnant. It is her body and she decides. What if they made it illegal for men to get vascectomies. There would be outrage.

And what's also very, very 'unsavory' is the true underpinning of Dobbs. Is it really the case that underage girls in Texas may soon need parental consent to obtain contraception? Medication abortion remains in the crosshairs, pending SCOTUS' action. I must assume millions of women- and men, for that matter- are wondering how an accomplished, attractive, politically talented SENATOR found herself consigned to the kitchen to deliver her rebuttal. Her kitchen, FGS. And why on earth did she feel unable to be the normal adult she is known to be? And just say her peace, with normality and conviction? Is this 2024, or is June Cleaver heading towards us out of her kitchen with a plate of brownies?

And NC has a republican candidate for governor who has expressed a desire to "walk-back" women's rights. There is a secret society of rich white men whose aim is to run the country or more precisely rule the country with no room for women anywhere but as servants to men. And a white male republican state legislator during a hearing twice ask a female witness who had introduced herself as a pilot for Delta airlines twice what her work day was like as a "stewardess". If you vote republican this is your future.

Sadly, it perhaps bears remembering that, while all the voices here have come to understand that Trumpism threatens both liberal democracy and the Constitutional order, that does not amount to conclusive evidence that they've also entered the 21st century. Unless I'm mistaken, Egger came up at Hillsdale College. Assume that ipse dixit isn't a fallacy.

Divorce is “an unsavory practice” too. Nobody wants to get a divorce, just like nobody wants to get an abortion, yet I have yet to hear anyone speak for outlawing divorce. (Unless you’re a pregnant married woman in Missouri, that is. And in that case, you need an abortion if you want a divorce.)

I agree. That phrase rankled me as well. Would Egger use the same language to describe an orchiectomy?

Candidate Trump security briefings seem the perfect opportunity to find out if he is funneling information to our enemies. Isn't that what they do in the movies to tease out a security mole? Feed him something untrue and see who ends up knowing about it. That would be some evidence!

Just as a reminder, per CDC data, approx 93% of abortions are performed in the first trimester.

He should get the briefings--pretend like he's a normal candidate--except that a couple of "mines" could be planted in them for him, only him. When they come out, it will be proof of continuing Espionage Act violation.

I'm hoping they just give him Archie comic books. That big mouth can't be trusted with anything if he can use it to show off with.

He's both the Village Idiot/Town Crier. I wouldn't trust him with my Mom's cake recipes.

Whatever happened with the Kristi Noem/Corey Lewandowski kerfuffle? Does adultery actually make her more or less appealing to MAGA?

More.

I didn't think it was a "kerfuffle." I thought it was an "ongoing liaison."

On another note, I think her new career as a spokesbot for private industries means she knows she's not on the Veep list.

I don't know about that, it seems like the sort of thing Trump would fine appealing. Both the grifting and adultery, he would probably think that would give him a shot. I'm pretty sure Melania has an aspirin between her legs...

Perhaps Sarah Longwell might form a "Permanently Barred" Club with T-shirts telling Trump and MAGA: "We Accept Your Invitation." I think the point was made recently on a Bulwark broadcast, perhaps last night's, about the ability of humor to cast would be authoritarians in a negative light. I normally do not buy such apparel but this is one I would proudly put on. Given Trump's actions on Ukraine and NATO, it's an honor to be "permanently barred" from his Putin-enabling MAGA outfit.

I think it might be a little too subtle for most MAGA folks.

Language is powerful. Saying a woman should be empowered to make her own health, education and economic decisions gains credibility & votes. In addition, if I were to advise Democrats, I’d emphasize accepting all people in spite of their individual differences. Cool down LGBTQ (Different strokes for different folks). Pull the curtains for goodness sakes. I’d also explain to Activists trying to change Foreign Policy that their cause is promoted by Iran, China and Russia. “Be careful what you wish for.”

Joe Biden should be impeached if he allows anyone in the U.S government to provide intelligence briefings to Donald Trump -- talk about a violation of the oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution!

The pro-Ukraine group I belong to was fundraising for drones to protect a unit (among other things). A member of our group has personal ties to them.

We were informed this morning that the unit no longer exists.

I really don’t understand how people sleep at night who know the stakes but refuse to help. I’m convinced that half of them don’t really believe in God no matter their claims.
