You are so right. She doesn't believe what she is saying but that's how she wins the support of her constiuents. Don't tell people the truth, they can't handle it.
Tlaib should be primaried at a minimum. She is not only a liability for the Democrats politically, but she, like Trump, is an enemy of the liberal world order and engages in apologia for terroristic regimes.
Much like thousands of examples (if not millions) of Irish-Americans blindly supporting IRA atrocities throughout the тАЬtroublesтАЭ for years upon years. When your heart has been damaged by years of tragedy and pain, itтАЩs really hard for your eyes to see clearly in an impassioned moment. NO excuses for either set of examples, just an observation from someone who was always willing to immediately see the worst in a perceived enemy while having a serious problem with looking in the mirror...
The irony here is that citizens of the Republic of Ireland had no use for Sinn Fein or the IRA. At the time of my first trip to Ireland back in the early 90s, I had--typically of Irish-Americans--a romantic, vague perception of the IRA as freedom fighters. I soon learned otherwise: The common descriptors in the Republic were words such as тАЬgangsters,тАЭ тАЬracketeers,тАЭ тАЬthugs.тАЭ As much as Sinn Fein has become a factor in contemporary politics in the Republic, most older Irish voters will not support them under any circumstances.
Very nicely put. My late husband was the kindest and most loving man alive but saw the IRA as a completely legit organization. Not the Provos (he was an Irish cop, not a lunatic) but the umbrella organization, absolutely.
I don't even know that it's being Muslim so much in her case as that she's Palestinian-American. And I get it; it's hard to be clearheaded about what's happening over there when you're Palestinian-American, but it's not impossible, and she's reflecting poorly on her party and providing lots of ammunition for Republicans. She's acting as an advocate, a pro bono defense attorney, because of her ties to the region; defense attorneys defend and never disparage their own clients no matter who they are or what they've allegedly done.
Don, that is the job and ethical duty of a defense counsel. An elected official is different, at best, an advocate for those who elected her/him, not blindly but with the awareness of the obligation to weigh options and support the option that best suits hsi/her constituents'/community's specific needs. Clearly the lady has no concept of her job, function and role, but like Boebert who pontificates on problems that are not anywhere near her realm of responsibilty to her constituents. Extremists at either end of the spectrum only differ in perspective, not in mind-set.
Tlaib is mirroring a left version of some of the more off-putting aspects of Trump and Trumpism, and as a Democrat, I'm not enjoying it.
Trump: I trust Putin over US Intelligence
Tlaib: I trust Hamas over US Intelligence
Trumpers ignore or excuse the most outrageous conduct out of Trump while attacking his critics. Trump is blameless, innocent, an angel!
Tlaib is doing the same for Gaza.

Flashback to:
Squabbling SNL husband: It's a dessert topping!
Squabbling SNL housewife: No, I tell you. It's a FLOOR wax!
Narrator: STOP, you're BOTH right!
"Shimmer! The desert topping that's ALSO a floor wax!"
(ahansen, you are dating the both of us.)
It's a DESSERT TOPPING, YOU COW!!
(all three of us)
Of course it does. Not only is she Arab, she is Palestinian. I believe her family is from the West Bank and some still live there.

Thank you, well said. Also, ethnic Germans opposing U.S. entry into WWI is another example.
