If - IF - the felon-in-chief was really serious about using tariffs to get people to buy American-made products - then having the tariffs listed separately in a purchase is a great idea. It would make people think twice about what they were buying and hopefully they would go find a similar product made in the USA. But of course, it was never about helping US businesses.....
"But Nixon was far more limited in his authoritarian ambitions than Trump."
Not sure about his ambitions, but he had much support and protection than Trump has, and he knew it. When push came to shove, Republicans put their country before Nixon, with many such patriots risking their own political careers in the process. The only way that can happen with today's shameless opportunists and spineless cowards is to leave them no doubt that enabling Trump is the greater risk to their own ambitions. Trump's sinking popularity is a start, but nowhere near enough.
The first thing I thought of when I saw that interview was an old show called Spitting Image and a segment they had on fairly often called "The President's Brain is Missing". Had to have a look if someone had put it up and they had, even adding a Trump reference (and it was uploaded 3 years ago, prior to the current progression of dementia).
Re Republican defections, that cannot happen until his approval gets to somewhere in the 30s. The prodemocracy coalition needs to do everything it can to drive down his approval.
"The U.S. economy contracted in the first quarter, weighed down by a deluge of goods imported by businesses eager to avoid higher costs, underscoring the disruptive nature of President Donald Trump’s often chaotic tariff policy." Worst is yet to come. Donald "The Beast" Trump is building a wall once again. Colossal tariff wall that is the beginning of the end for the system of down. At first the beast will pull the plug out of the global economy. The worst financial crisis of human history will pull a swarm of the banks underwater and the bank run begins. Then the beast will collapse a mountain of debt shattering the backbone of the monetary system causing a systemic risk to realize. Finally the beast will cast American citizens into a system slavery under the name of Ronald Wilson Reagan, just to "honor his legacy" count the number. After the destruction a new world order will be established in the US. And the Golden Age begins from the ruins of the world wide collapse. All of the system slaves will love it. No more cash - just digital transactions. No more traditional criminal activity. No more tax evasion. No more transactions without the "all seeing eye". Outcasts will hate the world without freedom, hope and privacy. To cover up the mess and distract the public by smoke and mirrors, the beast will engage in a war with Iran. Lies and deceit, corruption and decay, dancing on the graves will continue. Until; Black hole sun, won't you come, won't you come... I want to play a game. Time has come to opt out of the empire of filth. Live or die...
Regardless of Bezos, the peons know who's causing the price increase. And scaring a few of us is possible but scaring all of us is completely unwieldy.
1) What BK has postulated (things could easily get much worse) is certainly a big concern. And I keep thinking that at some point in the not-too-distant future, the courts are going to have to choose – either come down hard on Trump or give up. So far the lower courts have been pretty good, but SCOTUS seems to want to do everything possible not to antagonize Trump, including not simply stating that Trump needs to repatriate Abrego Garcia (“facilitate”, really?). They have to understand that Trump isn’t going to back down so they’re only delaying the inevitable.
If SCOTUS doesn’t read Trump the riot act, things could get very bad, very quickly. But as BK points out, there are lots of gray areas where a decent person would fear to tread, but Trump will gallop in gladly. So no matter what the courts do, it won’t be pretty.
2) The “photoshopping” incident reminds me of the famous altered weather map incident. Although in this case, someone else altered the picture, and Trump just went along.
3) And the “WPS” issue reminds me of the Easter egg roll controversy from a few years ago where the Trumplicants accused Biden of trying to “erase Jesus from Easter” by prohibiting overtly religious themes on the eggs. And, guess what, it turned out the same rules had applied for Easter egg rolls when Trump was President. Oops.
And Hegseth’s “Biden ruined everything” tweet just shows his lack of maturity. He sounds like a teenager yelling at their parents when they won’t let them do something (“you ruined my life, I hate you”). Just what we all want in a SecDef.
When my Mom had dementia, she'd get really upset and we'd try to calm her down or distract her. She finally bust out one day with "Calm down? Calm down? - I'd be OK if you would all only just agree with me. . ."
I wonder if Costco will show the tariff on their prices. I’m much more likely to shop with an honest retailer willing to stand up for their customers. Jeff Bezos might have gained some customers that way, but no. Kissing the ring much more important.
But here's the thing. Why does Terry Moran want to "move along?" Let him go. Let him rant. He sounds crazier and crazier as he goes. He wants to talk about that. Let him. The photo is photoshopped, so the truth is on his side.
The MAGA loons hang on his every word. They will actually hear this. They need to hear this.
Yes, yes. I felt that way every time some reporter asked a Trumplicant about the “stolen” election or Jan 6 and they’d give some vague nonsensical answer and after a few minutes, the reporter would say “we need to move on”. I’d think no, we need to hear the specifics of what they are claiming. Make it clear that they have no evidence or even a logical argument. Don’t let them off the hook by “moving on”.
Unfortunately, having the Trumplicants hear all of that won’t make much difference, if any. No matter what is actually said, they’ll see Trump get defensive and see the reporter “badgering” Trump and the facts will go out the window. And if all else fails Trump will later call the reporter a “bad guy” or say it’s “fake news” and that will be the end of that. It is a cult, after all.
Re: "“Jeff Bezos is very nice. Terrific,” he told reporters yesterday afternoon. “He solved the problem very quickly.”"
I don't know what to make of this because the reporting of the facts surrounding it seems so incomplete. Did the "tariff charge" ever actually appear anywhere? Was Bezos aware of it before the blow-up?
And what was actually said on that phone call? (Did it even happen?) Trump's always saying things like "[So-and-so] was very nice," or [So-and-so] was not very nice and I think he's going to go through some things now, but that's okay, we'll have to see..." Does it mean anything? The guy threatens a lot, but he rarely has to deliver on those threats. Did Bezos just praise him a little to get on the "very nice" side of the ledger?

A few comments...

"They have to understand that Trump isn’t going to back down so they’re only delaying the inevitable."
But Trump always backs down the few times he's truly confronted. SCOTUS knows that as well as anyone.
You know, when my kids were maybe six or seven, they'd sometimes come home from school and say "So-and-so is nasty. They are not very nice to me."
Perfectly appropriate.
For a seven year old.
I had a similar reaction.
That MS13 tattoo "Why can't you just say yes?"
When my Mom had dementia, she'd get really upset and we'd try to calm her down or distract her. She finally bust out one day with "Calm down? Calm down? - I'd be OK if you would all only just agree with me. . ."
It's Terry Moran
“Titan of business … “ 🤣🤣🤣

His "next 1,361 days". Please don't put it like that. That's just mean! 😲
Nah, mean is when you put how many hours that is, which adds up to.....
Couldn't do it to you, 1361 is bad enough
Oh my Lord, that interview about the tattoos.

Right. He gave the interview to Terry Moran because he’d never heard of him. And he’s a bad guy. What is he talking about?
Moran is a bad guy because he tried to get Trump to explain himself and didn't just swallow the tripe that Trump threw out. How dare he!
Yes. When he said "You want to see the picture?" Moran should have said "Yes. Sure"
And that "You can't photoshop" - why not? What does he think Photoshop IS?

This whole thing sounds fishy to me.
