Could we stop using the term "crisis with the border"? As the GOP has shown us, it's really not a crisis at all.

Is it me, or does even Whit Ayres seem to live in fear of trump and maga? He sounds as though he’s choosing his words very carefully.

Further: the NBC “poll” consisted of 72% of respondents who identify as white. The majority of respondents were over 50 years old. The ONLY methodology used was calling people. But NBC didn't mention any of those facts in their coverage. For you to spend ANY time on such a farce is a failure on your part to investigate the legitimacy of the poll before you and Will Saletan rant about what a disaster it is for Biden.

No.

It's a disaster in reportage and commentary. The poll is appalling flawed.

I've said this previously. Part of your responsibility is to comment on the credibility of different polls. What was the sampling methodology? Was it primarily land-line? Was was the reject rate? To simply rant OMG "Trump has a 20 point lead" - when on the face of it NBC must be an oulier, given another poll published just days earlier - is irresponsible.

I never paid much attention to Ann Coulter until recently with her opinion about Trump. As long as Mr. Trump is around, he will be a threat to our democracy and a pain in the country's whatever.

I'm tired of the R campaigns meddling w Democratic governance. Nixon meddled w the Vietnam peace negotiations. Reagan meddled w the Iran hostage negotiations (released right after the inauguration). And now Trump (pees by Braille) interfering w the immigration negotiations. All just for politics and to the severe detriment of specific individuals and the country as a whole.

Republicans should be required before voting, to guess the number of beans in the jar.

As an Ohioan, I still can’t get over the fact that Obama won here twice, then went comfortably for Trump and elected someone like JD Vance over a smart centrist like Tim Ryan. How is it that Ohio hasn’t stayed in the same range as Michigan and Pennsylvania as swing states? We have as many major cities with heavy blue populations and probably similar demographics as the other two I mentioned.

It’s just hard to believe how quickly Ohio came off the map. Is it really possible that it will stay this way permanently?

Did Ann Coulter really suggest that Trump dying could help take America back? (To sanity is what I’d mean - are we on the same wavelength?!?!)

It must be pretty cold down 👇

Carlson’s infatuation with Putin and his friendly visit to Moscow are not treason. The Constitution defines treason narrowly, but his actions are bad enough. It used to be lefties such as Owen Lattimore and Lincoln Steffens who visited Russia and praised and excused its murderous dictators. Now it is Carlson. Considering he once claimed to be a friend of liberty and limited government, it is hard to see how he can look himself in the mirror. Of course that goes for a lot of people lately.

Whit Ayres' Kamala bashing was unseemly. I expect better from the Bulwark

I'm glad I perservered thru the questionable at best gloom and doom to the Cheap Shots at the end. Ann Coulter suggesting the way to make the country great would be the demise of trump was worth it. Lol.

Hi Charlie, I was listening to the beginning of the pod episode with Will. I found myself getting angrier by the minute. During the 3rd Reich, it was not Hitler that held up the pillars of his evil dictatorship, it was the enablers. I listen to Vance, Stefanik,Mike Johnson, even McConnell, and others and I want to scream to Republicans, “Did you pay attention to the rise of fascism and Naziism while you were studying US History or Western Civ?” “Were you sleeping through class?” “Certainly you weren’t taking AP classes, were you?”.

I agree with brains come better rationalizations. However, I’m appalled watching these elected GOP walk the exact parallel paths that those in the 3rd Reich, and actually here in the US in the 1930s, walked before them. Astonishment doesn’t cover the extent of my feelings about this. MAGA needs to be destroyed. If we are lucky and pull through this, our children and grandchildren will need to say the phrase “never again” about this time in our history

"[Trump] is a quasi-incumbent, and [despite that] some 40 to 45% of Republican primary voters are voting for somebody else. This is not exactly a sign of overwhelming dominance when you’ve got almost half the party at least interested in an alternative."

-----

A more critical figure for the MAGA movement is that the Marigold Malignancy is not drawing in more knuckle dragging cultists. His support in the New GOP has been stagnant at best, and has appeared to be dropping with the Establishment and non-MAGA Republicans. The Republican support for the Bloviating Butterscotch Buffoon, imo, is more a result of the fear of retribution -- political, intimidation, and in some cases, outright violence -- than of *actual* support.

It would be interesting to see how the votes in Congress would break if they were anonymous rather than out in the open; I'd wager that the illiberal legislation being pushed, especially in the House, would not pass on the party line votes the Psychiatric Facility Escapee Caucus has "enjoyed" since Jan, 2023. It will also be interesting to see the results both of the popular vote and in the Electoral College vote if the Coral Cancer is the party nominee. His legal travails might cause an increase of support among those in the MAGAverse, but it is turning off the rest of us (I don't feel comfortable about speaking for others but this seems to be a growing trend).

Buckle up kids, this is going to be a rollercoaster of a year.

I wanted to add my thoughts about Charlie Sykes leaving the Bulwark: I am so grateful for the years of daily newsletters and podcasts. Listening to Charlie has gotten me through these last years. I can't think of anyone else who has spoken with such forcefulness, humor and moral clarity. I used to wonder how in the world he could be so productive--how could he do so much each day? I also wondered how he could face the ugly facts constantly, when everything in me wants to shut it down and pretend it isn't happening. The amazing guests, incredible information, and fun-- listening to Charlie has been an absolute thrill. I must admit I am a little heartbroken -- I'm losing something that has meant so much to me. At the same time, now I know -- no one can do so much, so well, forever. Thanks Charlie, with all my heart. Lisa Adatto, Oregon
