I think the idea's good, but the execution is off.
Trump doesn't speak in complete sentences. I doubt he thinks in them either.
I suspect there are two primitive emotions working in Trump's brain right now: rage and hate. He's already said that he hates his opponents. He wasn't talking specifically about Harris. He hates ALL his opponents, those in the media, in business, in government, everyone who says anything negative about him. Those are the things he will bring to the debate next week: rage and hate. And Harris had better be ready for them.
I think the inner monologue probably sounds something like this.
"This whole Kamabla thing or whatever you wanna call it. It's bullshit. I spent a hundred million dollars running against Biden. A hundred million. And now these people, they stick her in there. It's a coup. Nobody's ever heard of her before. Harris. I tell people. It's Harris and they say, "Sir, who is Harris?" And I say, "I dunno, but it's her." It's not fair and everybody knows it. It's bullshit and y'know what? The American people know it too. Lookit. You take everything that's going on now. The crime, our cities, they're hellholes. Nobody can believe it. Chicago. People getting killed there every day. And the border. Millions of these people, from places nobody's ever heard of, they come here and they're killers and they're drug dealers and ... it's incredible. And it's all Biden's fault. And I'm supposed to debate this person nobody's ever heard of. It's a disgrace. I spent a hundred million dollars and I was beating him very badly in every poll. Every poll. By a lot. And the Democrats, they cheat and they stole the Presidency and I must tell you, if I was Biden, and I'm no fan of Biden, but if I was Biden I'd be very angry, very upset and, I must tell you, I think he'll do something, but maybe not and it's okay..."
Prison. I remember Mary Trump saying something to the effect that the only thing Trump actually fears is a threat to his physical safety. I don't know if that's true because he seemed pretty eager to get back outside and do more rallies after the assassination attempt, but I'll take her word for it.
When he talks about prison, it's always abstract. He probably understands the danger and I'm sure he's nervous about it, but the reality of it ... Trump doesn't really do reality and I suspect he isn't thinking about the details of what prison would really be like. His first impulse is always to attack, too. To talk about the reality of prison would be defensive. He also doesn't do defense. He does grievance, outrage and offense.
"They wanna put me in prison! These people, for nothing. I think it's fair to say, and you must understand, no one in history, no President, has ever been attacked like I've been attacked. Like, I had a perfect call. The perfect call and they impeach me. And this whole documents witch hunt. Prison. They raided my home, Mar-A-Lago, a beautiful home and they raided it. My family. You can see the photographs. They ran through there and they destroyed all the things and it was totally illegal and they get these corrupt prosecutors and corrupt judges and totally unconstitutional. And liberal judges and they say it's all legal, but it's not legal and they know it and they'll do whatever to keep me out of office because they want to destroy our country. Destroy. And why? Because they hate our country and they want to destroy it and they know I'm way ahead in the polls. All of the polls. And they can't win, so they say, "We're gonna put him in jail" okay and they get all their corrupt judges to try to put me in jail. This woman I never met. All this... And New York and they got a racist District Attorney up there and she ran saying she was gonna put me in jail okay. And it's a disgrace. And they say, oh, January 6, January 6! Lookit. I said peacefully. I said, like ten times. Peacefully. And now here they come with another ... there's no ... it's a disgrace. And we're gonna fight it. We're gonna appeal all this to the Supreme Court and it's totally unconstitutional, this judge they got. She's totally corrupt, a total Democrat, and we're gonna do what we need to do and I must say, maybe we win or maybe, y'know, we don't win with the corrupt judge, but we'll appeal and then we'll see what happens."
The problem is they take up space about stuff that should be talked about like the Orange Snake saying he's entitled to interfere with elections. Getting to the point where I'm not interested in most of the Morning Shot essays.
I understand why some Bulwark readers dislike I Bill’s “inside Trump’s mind” pieces. It’s not a pleasant place to be. But I think it is useful
to understand why Trump is doing things which are baffling to most sane human beings and what he is likely to do in the future. William Safire used to write these all the time.
I do agree with one commenter that if Trump believes he has put abortion to bed he’s delusional. Frankly I don’t think Trump believes it. His gyrations on the issue in the last week indicate he remains concerned about his vulnerability on abortion.
Well, we do have an ample supply of digital space, and plenty of other things we can read if we want ... I think the person who brings the writerliness gets to pick how to use it.
Sure, but part of the process of being an a service providing enterprise is staying in tune with the customers. Nobody's saying Bill sucks and is a terrible human being or a bad writer, just that this bit isn't landing. It's constructive feedback.
And I'm in that group, they're an automatic scroll past for me as well.
Just gonna say it out loud. These pieces where Bill writes in the voice of Trump are just bad. Please just walk away from that idea.
I think the idea's good, but the execution is off.

You nailed it! Can you integrate in that sick narcissist’s inner monologue some fear of being put in prison?

Yeah, it is getting old and stale like Trumpster. I look for Bill to quietly resign that.
I don't like them at all. To me they don't seem like Trump, and they don't seem funny.
But some people love them! They obviously resonate somehow.
\_(•*)_/ diff'rent strokes I guess.
They're easy enough to skip if they don't flick your bic.
Yes, different strokes for different folks. And Bill's posts do contain a lot of food for thought for those of us who like them.
