It’s laughable to suggest that Tommy Tuberville understands the stock market, or anything else (except perhaps football). Perhaps his views of the market, international politics, and DEI ought to just be ignored.

You want to see fury? Wait until the SS checks do not arrive, wait until Sen. Tuberville’ constituents find out that their Medicare and Medicaid coverage has been slashed, wait until their VA hospitals disappear.

I think they will fix that. But wait until Social Security checks only fail to show up in blue areas.

Gonna guess Tommy's still doing fine, even if down a bit. It's the folks like me, who are a behind in funding our 401K, but are now in the mad dash meet our upcoming retirement needs, while trying to do so before losing their job to AI that are going to suffer.

Someone needs to challenge Josh Hawley on connecting DOGE firings to remote work and the Return to Office policy. Thousands of federal public servants have been fired unrelated to their desire to RTO. Also, most have been fired unrelated to their actual job performance either.

Exactly. Would it be better to be able to have 24 hour phone service or physically stand in line and see a person?

It is like these people don't understand that people do different jobs. Not everyone who works in a SS office is customer service.

My late father preferred standing in line. He used the phone extensively in his work life but he grew to hate the endless on hold minutes for things like SS or his health insurance. Somehow he felt he could get better results if he was face to face. I believe he just liked standing in line complaining about it with all the others in the line. It was social.

I find that I have gotten better and faster results when I am face-to-face with someone. I always told them, that if they fed me, I go away.

But some of us just can't stand in line. With WFH I feel like we can have both options.

The likelihood is that people trying to contact agencies will have to deal with chatbots. We'll have a government version of the crummy customer service that companies have foisted on us.

It's my understanding that the government workers who staff the legislators' House and Senate offices total something over 6,000. Has any legislator asked that Musk see what can be saved there? Are they unwilling to participate in the great downsizing? Why isn't that question asked by every interviewer talking to a legislator? Does anyone think that Tuberville or MTG is a more effective manager than the average manager in a government agency, or even the worst manager? My god, MTG has made statements indicating that she doesn't even know that she is a government employee. The hypocrisy is incredible.

I wrote my sycophantic congresswoman, Miller-Meeks, that same message last week. Here is part of the letter:

“If you want me to believe that you are sincere in your hunt for waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayers’ dollars, then the first thing you must do is fire yourself. Your annual salary of $174,000 would be saved. The cost of running your congressional office of $1,569,163 (estimated from page 4 of https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/RL/RL30064) would also be saved. Since all you do is parrot, “I’m for whatever Donald Trump says”, we can completely replace you with a recorded message that plays those words on a loop. Thus, we’ll save the US taxpayers $1,917,163 every year!

Multiply that by 217 GOP members of the House of Representatives plus 53 GOP Senators and we will have saved the US taxpayers a whopping annual $517,634,010 (less the cost for 270 tape players). I am sure that it will take the average Iowan a LOT longer to figure out that you are no longer in your office than it will to notice that infectious diseases are spreading (the CDC is shuttered), food safety is unreliable (USDA inspectors fired), veterans’ benefits are lost (there’s nobody home at the VA), no one knows when severe weather is coming (NOAA is closed), banks are ripping off consumers (no CFPB), and all the other government services that used to work pretty well most of the time have been obliterated through GOP efforts.”

That is terrific! Moreso because it's true. Wish you could get it published. Also, the Senators typically have much bigger staffs.

It's time for the blue states to think about what to do with the federal dollars of taxpayers in their state. Put a hold until this administration delivers for everyone. Those states will need the money if federal aid is going to be withheld.

Just an FYI. Cone Mills plant, White Oak, is here in Greensboro, NC. There is not a place in NC called White Oak. Back in the 60’s when I was in grade school, Cone was the dominant employer with the Proximity, Revolution and, yes, White Oak mills making textiles. ITC took them over and closed them down leaving White Oak to the end. Proximity and Revolution have been converted to work/live buildings while White Oak decays.
